Camp Lo Returns With New EP

Camp Lo, the smooth-talking, trend-setting Bronx duo, are returning to bring their innovative brand of hip hop back to the airwaves. The duo of Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede have teamed back up with legendary producer Ski Beatz to release their new 7-track EP "Ski Beatz presents: Camp Lo ... Another Heist" in August 2007...

Camp Lo is prepping for their first large release since 2002's Let's Do It Again. The first single from the EP, "Ticket 4 Two", demonstrates Sonny and Geechi continuing to lay down mischievous but appealing lyrics and flawlessly delivered verses while Ski brings back the melodic-soul element evident in the production on their debut album Uptown Saturday Night. "The cats who never heard Camp Lo's music are gonna be surprised to hear something this new and refreshing, and the longtime fans will definitely not be disappointed," Ski explains. "I'm not in the business of making wack music or compromising my sound to fit into any categories, so check us out." The album will be released through a joint venture between Ski's label Redefinition Records and High Water Music.

In 1997, Camp Lo teamed up with Ski Beatz, the producer behind "Dead Presidents" and "Feelin' It" amongst other tracks on Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt , to release the highly acclaimed album Uptown Saturday Night. With songs like the chart topping single "Luchini AKA This is it," Camp Lo was able to introduce a unique style of blaxploitation, street slang over funk-soul production, which garnered the group crossover success.

Ice-T Says Cam'ron ''Made A Bad Move'' On ''60 Minutes''

With the streets still buzzing over the "Stop Snitching" controversy, Ice-T weighed in on Cam'ron's "60 Minutes" appearance and broke down the term "snitching..."

"Cam'ron made a bad move. I mean, Cam'ron applied the rules to the streets, to the rules of hip-hop. Everybody in hip-hop ain't affiliated with the streets on that level," Ice told SOHH exclusively. "So when they asked him that big question, if a serial killer lived next to him would he tell and he said, no. Cam'ron went out. And I love you Cam'ron, but that was a bad call. If you know somebody's in the neighborhood and he's raping little girls, you supposed to tell the police about that sucker. That's not snitching."

Ice also shared his opinion on the "n-word" and revealed that he has no plan on banning the word.

"I'ma say 'n**ga' til the wheels fall off. My daddy used to say it. I believe that, if it doesn't apply to you, don't say it. If you ain't from the hood, don't say n**ga. That's where it lies. It's an inside word. Jewish people can say it to each other. Black people say certain things to each other. It's ok," Ice explained. "I think a lot of black people are too overly concerned with what white people think about them. I understand that word carries a lot of pain, but not the way it's been translated."

The way we throw the word n**ga around now...I grew up listening to Red Foxx, Ronaldo Ray and Richard Pryor, all these kinds of people," he continued. "If the intention is not there, then the word has no power."

The Clipse Working On Next Album, Re-Up Gang Debut

It took Virginia duo the Clipse almost four years and numerous label travails to release the follow-up to 2002's "Lord Willin'," which finally arrived last year in the form of "Hell Hath No Fury." But group member Pusha T says the time off gave both he and his brother Malice "a chance to sit back and carve out where we wanted to be in this music game and to evaluate hip-hop as a whole."

And though the group remains on the road promoting "Fury," which has sold just 184,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, work has also begun on a new studio album. Both members declined to elaborate on the progress of the project, but told Billboard.com, "We're just going to stay true to what it is we do..."

"Everything happens for a reason," says Pusha. "There's so much disposable music right now and it is all being classified as hip-hop. This music thing is really a place where you can make your mark in history and build something epic."

Which is why in 2005 the brothers released their "Got It for Cheap" Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 mixtapes, through which they introduced the Re-Up Gang, their music crew consisting of Pusha, Malice and Philly rappers Ab-Liva and Sandman. A third installment of the mixtape, as well as the Re-Up Gang debut album, are also in the works.

"The Re-Up Gang is just four MCs that follow the basic rules of hip-hop and lyricism," Pusha says. "Being creative, painting those pictures, the metaphors that smack you in your face."

For this reason, the attempt by black leaders to censor hip-hop as a result of the Don Imus controversy is disappointing to Pusha. "I am floored that our leaders have let the racist comments of this white man be turned around on hip-hop," he states. "Hip-hop didn't make that man say that. I'm just appalled."

Pusha also says the Clipse will not be commenting about the Virginia Tech tragedy in song, noting, "This is bigger than a track," he says. ""It didn't even come across my mind."

Dr. Dre's Son Hood Surgeon Preparing Debut Album

Affluent Records is planning to release the debut album from Hood Surgeon, the son of legendary West coast producer Dr. Dre.

The 16-track album, titled The Hood Surgeon: The Autopsy of Curtis Young, features production by Knocturnal and a cameo appearance by David Banner...

The Autopsy details Hood Surgeon's life growing up in Compton, CA which has produced a number of legendary rappers, including his father Andre "Dr. Dre" Young, NWA, Eazy-E, The Game, MC Eiht, DJ Quik and numerous others.

"It’s like, you know you’re gonna hear the struggle I went through..." Hood Surgeon told AllHipHop.com in a previous interview. "Motherf**kers can [check up on] my s**t and see what I been through and where I grew up at, and they’ll see that I’m not lying. I’m not gonna say I was out there shooting motherf**kers and doing all that, but I grew up around that, so I might speak on something that happened around me in my music. They ain’t gonna hear me say something I didn’t do."

As a rapper and producer, Hood Surgeon, born Curtis Young, is inspired by East and West coast rappers such as Tupac Shakur, The Notorious BIG, Jay-Z and his father Dr. Dre, who is also the CEO of Aftermath Recordings.

While he didn't meet his father until a much later age, he found out that his father was a legendary producer around the age of 12 and followed in his famous father's footsteps.

"I'm going through the grind like he did, like he had to go through. And so that way when I get it, I'll respect it more..." Hood Surgeon said. "I went through the same thing he been through. I met him when I was 21. I didn’t know him growin’ up. We just was right up under each other’s noses basically, not knowing that, you know, that that was my pop and he didn’t know I was his son."

So Hood Records is distributed by Affluent Records, which is distributed nationally by Red Eye Distribution.

The Hood Surgeon: The Autopsy of Curtis Young is due in stores July 24.

Lil' Wyte Preps Major Label Debut

Hypnotize Minds/Asylum artist Lil’ Wyte is set to release his third album The One and Only this summer.

The Memphis native’s first two projects Doubt Me Now (2003) and Phinally Phamous (2004) were both released independently and have sold over 200,000 copies a piece...

“I’ve always felt like I was a pretty complex rapper to be from the South - I feel like I put a lot into my music,” Lil’ Wyte said. “This album, I went for more simplicity, but I still gave it my all."

Lil Wyte's buzz has also been developed by cameo appearances on Adventures in Hollyhood, Three 6 Mafia's reality series that's broadcast on MTV.

The Oscar Award winning group produced Lil' Wyte's latest release and are featured on the 19-track CD along with labelmate Project Pat.

"it's hard, it's more street stuff on this one than on the previous Wyte albums," DJ Paul told AllHipHop.com."Project Pat helped him write the album along with me and Juicy J and DJ's are calling it the best Wyte album ever."

The first single off of the new album is called “I Got Dat Candy” and has already been released to radio.

"There’s so much music on the radio that’s just not doing it for me, and I know a million people like me that it ain’t doing it for them either," Lil' Wyte said. "When Three 6 Mafia brings out a new CD, the person that’s on them beats rapping has damn near the control to create whatever the hell they want to create.”

Lil' Wyte's The One and Only hits stores June 5th.

Memphis Rapper, Tela, Wanted for Unpaid Child Support

Rapper Tela, a Memphis native, is wanted in his hometown for some $128,000 in unpaid child support. According to a report from Memphis’ Eyewitness News, Tela—whose real name is Winston Rogers—has failed to pay support in over five years...

The warrant was issued after he failed to appear in Memphis & Shelby County Juvenile Court to explain the reason for the lapse. “We’ve been looking pretty much everywhere trying to identify where he is or where he might be,” says Mitch Morgan, Child Support Director of the Memphis & Shelby County Juvenile Court. “Even to the extent where we thought he was going be here doing a concert in Memphis.” Tela’s attorney, Arthur Horn, attributes his client’s failure to pay to a lack of income over the last five years due to a dispute with his record label. According to Horn, the issue has now been resolved and Rogers plans to return to Memphis soon and “clear up the mess.”
