Two People Shot at Jermaine Dupri Party in Atlanta

According to the Associated Press, three people were injured when shots rang out at a party hosted by producer and record executive Jermaine Dupri early this morning (July 31)...

The party, held at the Gerogia Peach Ballroom, was the final event in a series of So So Def–sponsored bashes this weekend. Dekalb County Police say that a man tried to rob another man’s necklace shortly before the gunshots began. Two women hit by bullets were rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital; another woman cut her arm while trying to flee the melee and reportedly went to Northside Hospital for treatment. No suspects have been arrested and the incident remains under investigation

Former No Limit Rapper, Magic, Inks Deal With TVT Records

New Orleans native and former No Limit soldier, Magic, has just inked a deal with TVT Records, where he will release his tentatively titled Before & After...

The rapper is no rookie in the music industry. He's been creating a buzz locally since the late 90's, when he grabbed the attention of C-Murder, who immediately signed him to Tru Records. With his buzz high, C-Murder's brother Master P took notice and moved the rapper over to his own No Limit Records.

Magic soon joined the long list of artists on No Limited that opted to leave, due to business practices, which in turn, held his music career back.

Now, after finding a home at TVT, the rapper feels its time to come back full force.

"In the past I've been in some bad label situations, which has held my music back. But with TVT Records behind me, I can finally make the mark on this industry I know I was meant to make," said Magic in a statement. "TVT's so strong in the South, and together we're gonna take it to the very bottom -- the Ninth Ward!"

Magic is not the only one happy about the deal. TVT Records is equally excited and believes in the rapper 100%.

"The talent coming out of New Orleans has always been great, but Magic has a real raw power in his voice and raps that will connect with fans all over the country," said TVT Records President, Steve Gottlieb. "Magic has a real story to tell and the talent to make people listen."

Magic, born Awood Johnson, hails from New Orleans' Ninth Ward, where he rose among the talents, following the footsteps of his father, who was a locally prominent jazz musician.

His TVT debut, Before & After, is slated for release in 2007.

Custom Made Sign To BabyGrande Records

The westcoast now has representation on one of the biggest emerging record labels in the industry. BabyGrande. The well known underground collective known as Custom Made have signed a deal which includes a mixtape due out in September including a DVD followed by the groups official debut album in 2007.

Over the years they have been together they have drawn comparisons to the likes of Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep while all the time creating a strong buzz in the streets of L.A.

Having moved over 100,000 mixtapes on the strength of the music and their own street savvy they saw national noteriety earlier this year when L.A.s DJ Warrior featured the group on his Cali Untouchable Ice Cube Mixtape.

"Custom Made has a sound and feel that you dont expect to hear and see coming out of L.A. To me their music is a fusion of all aspects of LA hip-hop culture presented in an entirely new manner and that originality and realness is what makes everyone from bangers to battlers feel their music. All of them are either 19 or 20 years old so they truly represent a new generation of hip-hop" exlained Chuck Wilson of BabyGrande.

On September 19, 2006 Babygrande will release the afformentioned mixtape: "Sidewalk Mindtalk: The Best of the Custom Made Mixtapes," which will include six previously unreleased tracks as well as a bonus DVD.

Skanbino Mob Murder A Accident

Was Flint rapper Marcus Mosley, known as Young Kee to fans, accidentally shot by one of his own acquaintances?

Family members of Mosley, 32, said Tuesday that they have received apologies from callers who told them Mosley wasn't shot intentionally.

But the callers say they can't and won't come forward for fear of trouble with the law, said a woman who identified herself as one of Mosley's aunts but asked not to be named.

Gangsta rappers Skanbino Mob made their mark rhyming about killings and street violence.

Within the span of 72 hours, two separate shootings claimed the lives of Skanbino members Bone Skanless and Young Kee, both 32.

The two killings sent sales of their music skyrocketing Monday.

Demand for Skanbino Mob's "Playin' Fa Keeps" CD on Amazon.com took the group's sales rank from No. 293,427 on Sunday to No. 7,466 on Monday.

The 13-track CD includes tracks "Callin All Killaz" and "Shut Yo Spot Down" and has numerous references to drive-by shootings, drugs and shooting police.

Young rap fans who went to a Flint record store Monday morning looking for Skanbino Mob items left empty-handed; they were told the store was sold out.

The slayings cast a pall over the Flint and Saginaw rap community, where Skanless - real name Deion J.L. Smith - was considered a godfather of the hip-hop scene.

"Bone was an underground Tupac," said Ray Pierson, owner of Ray's Music in Saginaw. "Everybody respected his music."

Smith died in a hail of AK-47 gunfire from a drive-by shooting outside his Alma Avenue home Friday night. A woman with Smith was critically wounded in the attack but is expected to survive.

The second killing was discovered about 1 a.m. Monday when Marcus Mosley - who performed as Young Kee - was found shot to death on Lawndale Avenue near Dayton Street.

Investigators said they have no evidence to link the two slayings but have not ruled out a connection.

"We're collecting bits and pieces of information," said Flint police Sgt. Terry Coon.

No arrests have been made, but Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said police have reliable information pointing to a suspect in "at least one of the shootings."

Police also impounded a car that matched the description of the vehicle used in Smith's slaying after a man abandoned it at a gas station on Carpenter Road on Sunday morning when he saw police.

Smith, who once survived being shot five times at close range, was acquitted of a murder charge in 2002 in the shooting death of a Flint man. He was on probation for gun possession when he was killed.

Mosley also ran into trouble after the release of "Playin' Fa Keeps," when he was caught with a gun in his waistband during a 2001 drug bust. Police also found $20,000 hidden in a football.

Mosley denied having the gun but was sentenced to a year of probation in 2005. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison in 1994 for cocaine possession.

A relative of Mosley who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Mosley recently had been working as a producer and was proud of his music accomplishments.

"Trouble follows you around," the relative said of Mosley's run-ins with the law.

Several hours before his body was found, Mosley's family began worrying for his safety after they started receiving mysterious phone calls telling them that Marcus had been shot.

"We had been looking for him half the day," the family member said. "After we got the calls that told us he'd been shot, we were very worried. We tried calling him, but he would not answer."

Five years ago, Mosley's brother - Meco Thomas - was shot to death outside a Flint market in a still-unsolved slaying.

Just before Mosley disappeared, the relative said Mosley was stunned by Smith's slaying, but didn't discuss it with other family members.

Smith's death came just two weeks after his 5-year-old niece was killed in a drive-by shooting on Carpenter Road in Genesee Township.

One member of the Flint rap scene said the city has taken a huge hit with the slayings of Smith and Mosley.

But Kerry Horton, organizer of Stop the Violence, was mum on what is behind the rash of violence in Flint.

"The streets are too hot right now," said Horton.

The community needs to come together to put an end to the violence, Leyton said.

Mos Def Conjures 'Magic' On New Album

Rapper Mos Def makes an uncharacteristically quick return next month with a new studio album, "Tru3 Magic." Due Sept. 19 via Geffen, the set boasts production from Pharrell Williams, Kayne West and Rich Harrison, among others.

And while the track list has yet to be announced, "Tru3 Magic" will be led by the track "Boogie Man," a spare track featuring prominent piano lines, live drumming and shout-outs to Mos Def's native Brooklyn as well as newscaster Walter Cronkite...

"Tru3 Magic" is the follow-up to 2004's "The New Danger," which has sold 445,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That was Mos Def's first solo album since 1999's acclaimed "Black on Both Sides."

Always in demand as an actor, Mos Def has four projects in various states of completion, including "The Brazilian Job," the sequel to 2003's "The Italian Job." He also makes a cameo alongside Elvis Costello in the new Will Ferrell film "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."

Supernatural Makes History, Sets World Record For Longest Freestyle

Underground legend Supernatural made history this past Saturday (August 5) at the Rock the Bells Festival in San Bernardino, Calif, by setting the Guinness world record for longest freestyle.

As SOHH previously reported Supernat had to beat Canadian rapper D.O.'s record of eight hours and 45 minutes.

According to the San Bernardino County Sun, Supernatural succeeded, freestyling for over 9 hours in a VIP ballroom. He rapped about things the crowd wrote on a dry-erase board and random items handed to him.

While Supernatural was making history, people outside were treated to performances by Redman, Mos Def, De La Soul, B-Real, Immortal Technique, Aesop Rock, Living Legends, Planet Asia and Talib Kweli, among others.

Among the highlights of the night was a performance from 'special guest' Lauryn Hill and a Wu-Tang tribute to fallen group mate ODB.

Lil Wayne Arrested on Drug Charges

Lil' Wayne was arrested on drug charges and released on bond, police said. The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was arrested early Monday in midtown Atlanta with several drugs in his possession, according to police...

Carter, who grew up in New Orleans, has recorded five albums, beginning with "Tha Block Is Hot" in 1999.

"Tha Carter II" was hailed by critics and debuted at No. 2 on the charts after its release last year. The album is the second installment of a planned five-part "Carter" series.

Lil Kim Signs A Deal With Interscope

SOHH.com has learned that Lil Kim is in the process of signing a lucrative record deal with Interscope Records...

As SOHH previously reported, Kim (born Kimberley Jones) announced late last week her intentions to part ways with her current label, Atlantic Records. Before going public with this news, rumors had begun circulating that the Brooklyn-bred rapper had been dropped by Atlantic.

According to a source close to SOHH, Lil Kim will be joining the Interscope Records roster which includes 50 Cent (who she has an ongoing feud with), Pharrell Williams, Eve, Black Eyed Peas and Eminem, among others. SOHH is also told Kim is planning a tour for the end of this year, and will release her fifth album on Interscope in the summer of 2007.

Representatives for both Atlantic and Interscope refused to comment when contacted by SOHH.

Ironically, an unscientific poll of 541 voters on her fansite, LilKimZone, pegged the petite rapper to sign with DefJam (32%), Interscope's sister label Geffen (25%) or Interscope (16%).

Lil Kim released her last album, The Naked Truth, on Atlantic Records while in jail in November 2005. The album, though critically acclaimed, failed to produce the chart topping hits or sales of her previous platinum works due to her incarceration.

Kim has kept quiet since her release from jail, but recently released a new mixtape track "Brooklyn For Life" [download] with Maino and Papoose.

In related news, Kim is readying to launch the second season of her BET reality show, "Countdown to Lockdown". The first season, which debuted earlier this year, captured footage of the Grammy Award winning rapper , before she turned herself into the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center to serve her 366-day sentence.

Pharoahe Monch, is set to shoot the video for his first single “Push,” on Thursday, August 17th in Green Point, Brooklyn. “Push” is the debut single off of his sophomore CD, Desire, coming out on his new label home, SRC/Universal Motown, this winter...

Being shot by Paul Minor, the video for “Push” is set in NYC circa 1977; during that summer’s massive power outage. The clip takes you through this tumultuous time where the city was recovering form near backruptcy and a massive police corruption scandal. In addition to exposing this time, the clip will create unforgettable imagery that evocates the conditions of poverty in the USA.

After recording three albums together Monch went on to pursue a solo career and released the critically acclaimed Internal Affairs in 1999.

Juhuu na endlich

Elton John will musikalisch neue Wege ausprobieren. September). „Vielleicht wird es eine Katastrophe, vielleicht wird es fantastisch, aber man weiß es nicht, so lange man es nicht ausprobiert.“ Inspiriert hätten ihn unter anderem die Titel „No Diggity“ von Blackstreet und „California Love“ von Tupac Shakur, die er sehrbewundere.
