After nearly three years, trying to trudge along on a shoe string budget, calling in as many favors as I could, and trying to save the music world one song at a time, the brilliant failure that was third earth music is coming to an end. There’s only so many times that you can get metaphorically kicked in the gonads until it’s time to take a seat on the bench. Only so many times that the prettiest girl in school declines your advances before you stop asking. So with that in mind we must begin the funeral arrangements…

I’d first like to give a brief eulogy. I’d like to thank each and every one of you for giving me something to believe in. As foolish as it might seem to some, the fact that you each bought records which were better than the bullshit that floods the shelves and dominates the airwaves led me to believe that we could exact some kind of change, and create some form of balance in this universe. And for a while I truly believed that. Lately I’ve felt defeated, kicked, and hopeless. The bastards have won I guess. I feel like I’ve failed in trying to play Paul Revere to the masses and put them on to something that they hadn’t yet been sold. I failed in televising the revolution. I failed in not making everyone famous, and I can’t fail anymore. I can’t fight anymore. It’s time to lay the dream to rest for now.

We had our moments. But the good times are gone now. Three years of trying to build something from scratch with our blood, sweat and tears has now collapsed. And it’s a pretty sad day, but also a pretty freeing day. As for me, I’m going to put my attention towards Roosevelt franklin now. I guess we’re looking for someone to put our record out…

Ja das ist schon schade .. gerade so Sachen wie das Black Panther Album waren schon vom Feinsten ... aber das heißt ja nun auch nicht dass die Gruppen so mir nichts dir nichts von der Bildfläche verschwinden werden ... wird bloß schwieriger die Sachen ans Publikum zu bringen ...

Der mittlere Teil des Briefs ist ja schon deftig mit Pathos gewürzt..

Ist echt schade, war aber ein wenig abzusehen, Jean Grae geht zu Babygrande und in den letzten Monaten kam glaube ich auch nichts neues mehr. Jetzt heißt es die Sammlung vervollständigen bevor die ganzen Alben richtig teuer werden.

Nicht nur das, auch die anderen Alben sind durchweg gelungen, ich bin vor allem von dem Juggaknots Album angetan.

Das Album hat mir gar nicht gefallen, die Beats sind mir irgendwie zu wenig ins Ohr gegangen. und war ziemlich unharmonisch...einzige Ausnahme: der geniale Titeltrack in dem dieser interessante Vater-Sohn-Streit ausgetragen wird ... das gibt's in der Form nicht oft ...

Ich mag es einfach, die Beats sind zwar keine Ohrschmeichler, da gebe ich dir Recht, aber gerade die Ecken und Kanten lassen mich an ihnen immer wieder was neues entdecken. Für mich klingen sie z.T. richtig schön roh und dreckig, fernab des üblichen und ausgelutschten 08/15 Schemas. Aber Geschmackssache ist es schon...

Neeeee - das fand ich kein Stück dreckig Eher abgehoben, verkopft und gezwungen auf Experimente getrimmt...

So experimentell und abnorm fand ich die Beats auf dem Album wirklich nicht (anders auf dem m.E. furchtbaren "The Love Deluxe Movement") und gezwungen und verkrampft schon gar nicht, eher freigiebig und locker ohne Einhaltung vorgegebener Regeln und sich separierend von vermeintlich feststehenden imaginären Konventionen . Aber gut dass sich Geschmäcker unterscheiden....

Ich habe den jede menge exemplare der noch verbliebenden TEM releases aufgekauft, also werden die alben bei mir noch lange erhältlich sein...
