Habe gerade festgestellt dass es noch gar keinen (Eric B. &) Rakim Thread hier gibt, dabei ist Rakim doch einer dem fast jeder Rapper huldigt. Denke Eric B. kann man mal ein wenig vernachlässigen, er hat ja ziemlich von Rakim gelebt und nach der Trennung des Duos hat er nur noch ein einziges bemitleidenswertes Solo-Album rausgebracht...

Bin gerade etwas stutzig geworden, habe irgendwo gelesen, dass schon am 25.09.2007 ein neues Rakim Album mit dem Titel "Live" erscheinen soll. Weiß aber nicht ob das ein reguläres Studio-Album wird oder tatsächlich ein Live Album. Weiß da einer mehr zu? Und was hat Rakim in den letzten Jahren nach seinen beiden Solos überhaupt so getrieben? Hat er irgendwo eine eigene Seite im Netz?

kein Plan.Weiß nur, das er 2-3 Jahre beim Aftermath Label von Dr. Dre gesignt war, da aber nichts zustande kam und er ging..danach habe ich nichts mehr über ihn gelesen. Und dieses live ist bestimmt ein Live Album oder unveröffentlichte Tracks von irgendwo..Denke kaum das er nach so vielen Jahren einfach unangekündigt und ohne Promo was droppt.

Hab mal was gelesen, dass Rakims neues Album den Titel "The 7th Seal" tragen soll und irgendwann im Winder erscheint!

Das sollte eigentlich am 7.7.07 rauskommen, aber anscheinend wurde da nichts draus.

Live-Alben sind ja wohl das Dümmste was man auf den Markt werfen kann, bei einem Rakim müssten ja wenigstens ein paar "Bootlegs & B-Sides" drin sein. Kenne nur ein gutes Rap-Livealbum, "Survival Of The Illest" von Def Jam Records... und was die DVD angeht: irgendwie stelle ich es mir noch allzu spannend vor, Rakim dabei zuzuschauen wie er eine Stunde lang auf der Bühne hin- und herläuft... :razz:

Rakim Wrapping New CD

Rap legend Rakim will team with Ghostface Killah and Brother Ali for the first Hip-Hop Live! tour, which will find the artists backed by the Rhythm Roots Allstars. The 19-city trek begins Oct. 29 in Los Angeles and runs through Nov. 21 in Philadelphia...

"I did a show with the band and it was a good mesh. I enjoyed it, the fans enjoyed it. So they hollered at me for this year's show," Rakim tells Billboard.com.

Rakim is still planning to release a new album, "The Seventh Seal," which he announced in the summer of 2006. The set will arrive via his own G&E Trust label but as of yet there is no release date.

"The number 7 has a lot of significance. The 7th letter of the alphabet is G -- that stands for God. There are 7 continents, 7 seas. The 'Seventh Seal' deals with that and also some revelations in the Bible," explains Rakim of the album title. "Some call it the end of the world but for me it's the end of the old and the beginning of the new. By me naming my album that, I'm using it metaphorically in hip-hop. I'm hoping to kill the old state of hip-hop and start with the new."

Though he declined to go into much detail, Rakim says there are very few guest appearances on the album, but that he will record a few more collaborative tracks in the coming weeks.


Among the songs likely to make the cut are "Divide and Conquer" ("It speaks on the state of mind of the hood and how divide can cause turmoil," he says) and "Holy Are You ("It's dealing with the laws we're supposed to abide by, who we are, what are duties are," he adds).

In addition, Rakim is prepping a DVD via G&E Trust/Koch that will feature interviews, unreleased tracks and live footage.

Erinnert mich irgendwie an Nine, der hat auf einem seiner Alben doch auch die Zahl 9 ein wenig glorifiziert...

Was das Album angeht: Bin mal gespannt was das wird, denke aber das wird erst in einem Jahr was, Rakim scheint ja auch nicht besonders schnell zu arbeiten wenn man sich anschaut was in letzter Zeit alles von Ihm kam...

Es gab ja neulich schon ein vergleichbares Projekt von Ohene aus Philly, der hat sich auf EP-Länge mit der Zahl auseinandergesetzt. Ich find's eigentlich ganz interessant, zumindest bemüht man sich mal, was Neues anzustoßen. Dass es eine symbolträchtige Zahl ist steht ja außer Frage...

das is für mich einfach nur übertrieben... ansonsten hab ich auch nix wenn Rapper mit irgendwelchen ideologisch-philosophischen Themen antanzen, egal wie schwachsinnig bzw unschlüssig es letztendlich ist

Ja, klar ist das Stuss. Hab auch nicht gesagt dass ich seiner Meinung bin. :D Aber ideologisch muss das Thema nicht zwingend sein, ich wäre zumindest überrascht wenn Rakim als alter 5-Percenter uns den Niedergang der weißen Rasse predigen würde...aber man weiß ja nie :razz:
