Shortly after Snoop Dogg's appearance at a rally protesting the forthcoming execution of Crips Gang co-founder Stanley "Tookie" Williams, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has agreed to meet with the inmate's lawyers..

Just last week, Snoop joined thousands in front of the San Quentin Prison as they rallied in support of Williams. The Dogfather was asking for clemency for Williams, who is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection this coming December 13. The former terminator, who has not overturned a death sentence since his term as Governor began, said he would consider sparing Williams' life.

Margita Thompson, Schwarzenegger's press secretary, stated, "The Governor reviewed the material in the case this week and he decided the best route is a private clemency hearing, so he can hear directly from counsel."

Schwarzenagger could have called for a public hearing - allowing celebrities like Snoop, actor Jamie Foxx, and The Rev. Jesse Jackson to plead the ex gang banger's innocence - but felt that a closed session will keep stars from meddling with the process.

Williams was sentenced to death in 1981 for killing four people in two robberies. His supporters like the aforementioned Snoop and actor Foxx are asking for clemency, arguing that Williams has become an inspiration to troubled youths and that his books have helped kids leave gang banging behind.

In related news Snoop, along with fellow Dogg Pound members Nate Dogg, Kurrupt, and Daz Dillinger, recently shot a video for their single "Real Soon" dedicated to Tookie. In the video Snoop is seen wearing a Save Tookie.Org t-shirt.

Word has been "Getting Around" that the Dynamically Certified lyricist Techniec, has undergone a name change into The Beach Boy. Contrary to other reports, the word straight from Tech is, he will be keeping the name he has been using for over 10 years. Word got around and the feedback was real negative toward the supposed new moniker for the MOB/DC artist. Tech can be found alongside E-40, Chingy, and other artists who made a surprising collaboration together on the upcoming Stop Snitchin, Stop Lying mixtape set to hit stores on December 6th. Look out for Techniec.com before the end of the year.

Movement gehören: Mobb Deep, Tray Deee, Soopafly, KRS-One, Defari, Daz, J-Ro, RBX, Bad Azz, WC, Dilated Peoples, Mac Minister, The Alchemist, Mack 10, Evidence, Defari, Everlast und B-Real...

Release "New Whirl Odor" in irgendeiner Weise zu gefährden.

It's gonna be an afterparty Music, on a world now weary of commercialized gangsta fables and the prostitution of hip-hop...

DMX has been called a lot of things in his career: X, Dark Man, Dark Man X. But "a violation waiting to happen?" That's what a Bronx judge dubbed the rapper on Tuesday when he hit him with a seven-day sentence after X pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license in the Bronx last April.

X (born Earl Simmons), 34, is currently serving a 70-day sentence for parole violation, stemming from a guilty plea last year to reckless endangerment and driving under the influence. He was given the extra week for a separate incident in which his SUV struck a car that then smashed into a police car. According to a report by The Associated Press, Criminal Court Judge George Villegas rejected the rapper's plea for probation, saying "I'm not going to put him on probation because he's a violation waiting to happen."

Though he was also fined $500 by judge Villegas — who joked that his kids are such big DMX fans that they're "not talking to me anymore" — X will be allowed to serve the seven days as part of his current jail stint.

DMX was given the 70-day sentence on November 18 after pleading guilty in October to violating the conditions of his release following a June 2004 incident at Kennedy Airport in New York, where he allegedly claimed to be a federal agent and ran his SUV through a parking-lot gate. He originally faced 60 days, but the judge tacked on an extra 10 because the rapper showed up late to court the day before sentencing.

Socio-political group X Clan is mounting a comeback. The act, hugely popular in the 90's, is slated to release a new album called Return from Mecca in 2006. According to a press statement, the opus will express the "tradition of displaying ancestral wisdom, culture, and signature lyrical style." In addition to a new album, the Brother J-helmed group has been included on the Damian Marley Jamrock Tour, which ends on Dec. 6 in Norfolk, VA. X Clan broke up in the mid 90's after releasing a pair of heralded albums, To the East Blackwards and Xodus.

Dilated Peoples are planning to release their next album, "20/20," in 2006 which will feature a diverse collection of styles. The first single from the album will be the track "Back Again." "We weren't worried about the whole album...if we had two love songs and one party song," group member Evidence explained....

"We just banged it out. It was just about making music."
The album will also feature classic sounding Dilated Peoples tracks like "Alarm Clock Music."

"We make sure that Babu is there with us and gets the equal shine because the DJ is the backbone of the culture," said Rakaa.

"20/20" will feature a collaboration with Capeton on the reggae themed track "Firepower (The Tables Have to Turn)."

"I've always got to give respect to Jamaica and to reggae music for creating Kool Herc and ultimately creating Hip-Hop," Rakka continues. "Without reggae music, there is no Hip-Hop."

Production on the album will come courtesy of Alchemist, Joey Chavez and Bravo, as well as Dilated Peoples' Evidence and DJ Babu.

"With this record, we wanted to really get back to a real, uncut pure vision and get back to the pure, boom-bap sound that really made us all get together," Rakaa said.

The name Mike Jones sounds more appropriate for an accountant than a rapper, so it figures he would have an exact number for the completion percentage of his next album.

"It's 85 percent done," Jones said earlier this month at the Vibe Awards.

Houston's Jones originally hoped to release the album this year, but he says the release date is now April 18. The title has also been altered slightly to The American Dream.

"Every year I'm dropping an album, just trying to stay fresh in the game," said Jones, whose Who Is Mike Jones? came out in April. "I just wanna let the world know about Mike Jones, I'm just trying to get branded."

In the meantime, Jones just shot the video for his next single, "Flossin'."

"Sometimes you just have to step outside and floss every now and then," he said of the song. "Flossin' just basically means just step outside with the jewelry, step outside with the car, just have a good day, let the top down, just have fun, man."

And Jones did just that for the video, which centers around a pool party.

Along with his own music, Jones has also become a commodity around the industry as a guest rapper.

"I've been doing stuff with Bow Wow, T-Pain, I've been talking with Usher," Jones said. "A lot of people have been coming to me, showing me a lot of love. Russell Simmons, I'm doing some stuff with him. I'm just trying to keep it going. I met R. Kelly the other day, he's a real cool dude; G-Unit, they're real cool. I'm with everybody, I'm just trying to work, man."

Jones is also getting some work behind the camera. He just appeared in an episode of "Prison Break" and will rejoin the show when it returns in the spring. He's also reading movie scripts. "That's really my art," Jones said.

Passing notes in school leads to detention. Passing notes in court leads to slightly more major revelations...

Foxy Brown's assault trial was postponed until Dec. 23 Monday, after it was revealed in court that the rapper is almost completely deaf.

The news came about after Judge Melissa Jackson questioned why Brown and her attorney, Joseph Tacopina, spent the morning exchanging notes.

"She can't hear me," Tacopina said. "Anything I have to communicate with her now has to be written. It's dialogue, communication."

While the 25-year-old spoke of her hearing problems back in September, the extent and severity of the loss was previously unknown. Brown, who subsequently had surgery for the ailment, also refused to disclose the potential cause of the loss, though she has copped to a sensorineural disorder in the past.

Tacopina said that his client will undergo a second surgery to try to regain some of her hearing before her next court appearance later this month, though the chances of a full recovery are unclear.

"Hopefully [the condition] is reversible," he said. "She has to undergo another surgery."

Brown was in court Monday for what was to be the start of her criminal trial. The rapper, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was arrested in August 2004 for misdemeanor assault and harassment stemming from a dispute at a New York nail salon.

Two workers at Manhattan's Bloomie Nails claim that the rapper assaulted them after they refused to let her leave their salon without paying her manicure bill.

Prosecutors claim that the Def Jam artist attacked the workers, kicking one of them and punching another in the face with her cell phone.

For her part, Brown denies the allegations, but does say she was overcharged for the nail work.

"I'm innocent," she said in her September hearing. "I feel like I'm being railroaded."

Brown has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has twice turned down prosecution's offer for a plea bargain in which the rapper would have received probation in exchange for accepting lesser charges.

Tracopino said Monday that he did not want to expose Brown to being named in a civil lawsuit by pleading guilty to assault. However, the attorney says he hopes to reach a better deal with prosecutors before the next court date.

"We're concerned about the motives of others," Tracopino said. "She's been seen as a bull's-eye for a quick payday."

While both health and legal woes forced Brown to stop touring earlier this fall, she does have one project in the works.

Her anticipated new album, Black Roses, hits stores in 2006.

The Lox and Bad Boy mogul Sean ”Diddy” Combs have settled a music publishing dispute after a furious on-air clash that was broadcast on Hot 97 last month...

Group members Styles P and Sheek re-appeared on Angie Martinez’s Hot 97 radio show today in a state of euphoria.

“What he did was sweet. He came back [with his offer] and I almost jumped out my seat,” Styles P said to Angie Martinez. “Basically, he gave us all our publishing back. He didn’t have to do what he did. In the business world, what he did, was like a four-leaf clover. The results was great.”

Styles said both parties assembled today with their lawyers and made a mutually satisfactory decision in a 45-minute meeting.

“What he did for us, he didn’t have to do. What he did for us was splendid. He made it so much easier. He made our business beautiful,” Styles continued.

After the initial clash on November 16 and Diddy's response, Styles said he talked to his former CEO on the phone and had a frank conversation.

“Before the [legal] meeting I spoke to him over the phone. He said, ‘I want to meet up, look y’all in the eye and speak as men. The bottom line is we can fix it.’” Furthermore, Styles said that their whole quarrel was a “miscommunication.”

“What he was saying was true, but what we were saying was true,” the Yonkers native asserted. “Its an argument where you could say both sides were right. It was grown man, eye to eye.”

Prior to the resolution, Styles said The Lox’s living conditions were “uncomfortable” and an “irritating situation to be in.” Additionally, he apologized profusely for their initial public dispute and remarks that could have been perceived as threats.

Styles implored that other rappers should be mindful of their business dealings and to understand their worth as entertainers.

“I think the problem with the whole game is artists don’t stand for themselves,” he said.

Sean “Diddy” Combs wasn’t available for comment at press time.

Comedian Richard Pryor Passes At 65

Iconic comedian/actor Richard Pryor passed away this morning (Dec. 10) of a heart attack, after being ill for years with multiple sclerosis.

Pryor, 65, who has been sampled by such artists as Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, A Tribe Called Quest and others, passed away at a hospital near his home in the San Fernando Valley. Pryor’s business manager Karen Finch stated that a private memorial service will be held by private invitation. The family is also requesting donations to Pryor’s recently established animal charity, Pryor’s Planet. The multi-talented Pryor was born Dec. 1, 1940 in Peoria, Illinois. Pryor was a more mainstream comedian in the mid-1960’s, until he started working profanity and the word n***er into his act.

Pryor’s second album, 1970’s Craps (After Hours) on Laff Records helped the comedian gain a larger following. Seeking a larger deal, the comedian released the classic comedy album That Nigger’s Crazy on the Reprise/Warner imprint. The hit albums continued for Pryor, who released hit albums like Is It Something I Said?, Bicentennial N***r, Richard Pryor: Wanted – Live In Concert and Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip.

In 1977, the comedian launched his own television show The Richard Pryor Show on NBC in 1977. He also wrote for the hit series Sanford & Son, hosted a controversial episode of "Saturday Night Live" and later hosted his own children’s show, "Pryor's Place."´In 1979, Pryor took a trip to Africa and vowed never to use the N-word in his standup comedy routine again. In 1980, Pryor was freebasing and accidentally set himself on fire. Despite being severely burned, Pryor worked the incident into his stand up show, "Richard Pryor Live on Sunset Strip."

According to Pryor’s wife Jennifer, the comedian had actually tried to commit suicide by pouring high proof rum over his body in a drug induced frenzy and lit himself on fire. Also, in 1980, Pryor used his considerable clout in Hollywood to form his own movie production company, Indigo. The comedian appeared in almost 50 movies, including "Lady Sings the Blues," "The Wiz," "Silver Streak," "Car Wash," "Greased Lightining," "Stir Crazy," "Superman III," "Harlem Nights," "Brewster's Millions," "The Toy," "Bustin' Loose," "The Muppet Movie" and others.

In 1983, the comedian earned $4 million dollars for his role in "Superman III," earning a million more than the film’s star, Christopher Reeve.
Pryor was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1986 and was later confined to a wheel chair. His 1995 autobiography “Pryor Convictions: And Other Life Sentences” were released to critical acclaim. In 2004, Pryor was voted the “Greatest Standup Comedian of All Time” by Comedy Central. The comedian was married six times in his life and is survived by his wife Jennifer Lee Pryor and six children, Richard Pryor, Jr., Elizabeth Stordeur, Rain Kindlin, Kelsey Pryor, Steven Pryor, Franklin Mason and three grandchildren.

Hi-Tek Busy With Solo CD

Noted producer Hi-Tek calls himself a free agent right now, but is keeping busy with a number of projects. The Cincinnati-reared Tek has two songs on 50 Cent's soundtrack to "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," and during the last couple of years, has been steadily racking up credits on albums by other Aftermath and Interscope acts, including the Game, Lloyd Banks and D12...

Current studio gigs include collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Styles P, Busta Rhymes and Dr. Dre's long-awaited "Detox" album. "I've been submitting tracks to see what he's feeling," Hi-Tek tells Billboard of the latter project

In the meantime, Hi-Tek is juggling several other projects. One is the follow-up to his 2001 solo debut on Rawkus Records, "Hi-Teknology." He describes the work-in-progress as similar in concept to his last effort, which featured a diverse artist lineup. "Upgrade this one to the 10th power," he declares of the new album that presently lists Nas, Snoop Dogg, Mos Def and Raphael Saadiq in the guest column.

"I don't consider myself a rapper," Hi-Tek adds, "though I do have some verses on this album. It's more about my versatility as a producer."

Building buzz through his work with various underground artists, Hi-Tek netted above-ground notoriety when he produced rappers Talib Kweli and Mos Def (as Black Star) on their pivotal 1998 self-titled album. Two years later, Hi-Tek and Kweli partnered as Reflection Eternal for the critically acclaimed "Train of Thought" album, which helped cement the reputation of Rawkus. In between their busy schedules, the pair are planning to record a second album.

"We're nitpicking at it right now," Hi-Tek says, "because Talib is working now on his next solo album. But we've done a couple of joints." For the last three years he has also been grooming an R&B singer he discovered in Cincinnati named Dion. Hi-Tek has featured him on various projects, including the track "I'm Runnin' " from the Game's 2005 debut album.

Lamenting that a lot of hip-hop sounds the same, Hi-Tek says he is shopping for the right distribution deal that will help him "keep my creativity. The major labels can stop you from being original. Right now they're looking for something that's already going on. I'm looking ahead of the game."

In the past couple of weeks we've heard Busta Rhymes collaborations with D4L ("Laffy Taffy" remix) and Slim Thug ("Get That Guap"), and the formerly dreadlocked rapper says that's definitely not going to be the last time we hear him get down and dirty with cats from the South...

He's been in cahoots with the Aphilliates to put out a Busta Rhymes Gangsta Grillz. That one is going to feature Bus rapping with some of his Southern homies like T.I., Ludacris, Paul Wall, Mike Jones and Bun B.

"It's just for the South, and it's all exclusives," Busta said. "Ain't nothing being done over somebody else's beat. So it's just like a whole 'nother album I'm doing, feeding the street with the relentless bangers for the 'hood.

"In addition, I've got an East Coast CD called New Crack City with my man Clinton Sparks," he added. "It's for whoever and whenever. But I'm specifically making joints to accommodate the area with the sound they prefer when they listen to music. But we realize these sounds have become global. Clinton Sparks and the Gangsta Grillz are both gonna come this month."

That's just the start. DJ Green Lantern, who produced a duet between Busta and the late Rick James for Rhymes' new LP, The Big Bang (due in March), is also going to be working on a Busta Rhymes mixtape that will come sometime in January.

Perhaps you're wondering how he's still going to have enough original material for his album after releasing three mixtapes. Well, 212 is the magic number. He's recorded that many songs in the three years he's been off.

Speaking of off, Busta is getting used to his new haircut. He's actually cut it twice since shedding his dreads a couple of weeks ago and is on his way to growing some waves.
