Reppin’: San Francisco, CA (Fillmoe)
Label: Strictly Business
Sky Balla is far from a newbie to this rap shit or the streets.
The Fillmoe-bred MC has been doing his thing for years now and is
moving closer to his dream of “accomplishment” by the day.
Most first recognized Sky as being a close affiliated to the GLP
(Get Low Playaz) back in their glory days. “The beginning of my career
was back when the lab was at Quinns mama’s house, uptown on Divisadaro.”
At the time, the opportunity to rap with the likes of San Quinn, JT,
D-Moe, and Seff was a dream that many young rappers from the Bay
would have killed for. Luckily for Sky, he was able to remain level
headed through his early stardom and further his career to new and greater heights.
Now living primarily in Miami, Las Vegas, and the Bay, Sky has gathered
a list of networks in the hip-hop industry that would bring chills to any
normal address book. He has collaborated with some of hip-hop’s most
popular artists and continues to build upon his resume.
Coming from the Bay Area where a lot of artist tend to stay within their
own box, Sky feels “it’s beneficial for your career if you can make some
moves outside the Bay and then bring it back. It’s about showing up,
it’s like a presidential campaign. You gotta get out there and shake hands,
rub shoulders, be friends, politic with the artists and the fans.”
In the near future, Sky plans to drop his solo album titled Tycoon Status,
which will be released by his label Strictly Business and Thizz Entertainment.
He also has another album on the burner ready for release titled
Every Penny Counts, which at the moment is waiting on a distribution deal.
Aside from music, Sky has other miscellaneous hustles and ways of
getting that guac to support a lifestyle of the hood, rich, and famous.
“Without the budget or the money to do things and no investors behind
you, you gotta B.Y.O.B. (Be Your Own Boss). Being in two games,
its like Michael Jordan playing basketball and baseball, you just gotta stay focus.
It’s what I’ve been doing since I jumped in it and I’ve been doing this shit
since Michael Jackson was black.”
