Commanding the respect of many in the rap game, RMR records recording artist, Tela, receives props from his peers, respected artists, and has since his debut album in 1996. Tela a genuine street soldier honed his skills with some of the South’s best and brightest rappers such as Eightball and MJG. However like most rappers he also had his share of heartaches and disappointments when it came to pursing his career. However despite the setbacks with record deals gone awry, Tela was largely ignored by the mainstream hip hop press, among other roadblocks he remains one of the South’s most promising and revered artists today.

Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, Tela began his carrer in the early 1990’s when he and some friends were signed to a local record label. He released an underground tape that received much praise, but it did not lead to the fame and fortune he assumed it would so he decided to pursie other options. Remaining patent and persistent, Tela landed a deal with Suave House Records. Shortly thereafter, he dropped his critically acclaimed debut album Piece Of Mind, which sold nearly 500, 000 copies and is considered a southern classic. Nevertheless, things were not working out between the gifted artist and the label so Tela and Suave House decided to part ways. However he was not without home for long. On the heels of a great debut album, in 1997 he found himself at Rap A Lot Records home to multi platinum artists Scarface & The Geto Boys. Tela began immediately working on his sophomore album entitled Now Or Never. With this album Tela infused Memphis soul with funk, and the crunk sound of southern hip hop.

In 2000 Tela’s long awaited third album “The World Aint Enough” hit stores. On this album, he used a different approach by mixing classical music with funk and potent hip hop. He did it again by creating anthems that appealed to everyone. On his fourth album the 2002 release of Double Dose, it was a rare pleasure to hear songs where the beats were specifically matched with the lyrics to create emotional responses.

Tela soon exited Rap A Lot and partner with the burgeoning independent record label RMR records. With his fifth album coming soon entitled “Made In The USA” he is in control of his carrer and he will serve as executive producer with the label as well as an artist.

Tela says “ I Just want to do good music and make good records. My album is personal just like being at RMR” Set to drop this summer his album is a reflection of where he has been and what he has been through and where he is headed too. With collaborations from Jazze Pha, Too Short, MJG, Eightball, and a host of others. Each song has a meaning as does every song he has ever recorded. The first single “Shake It For Daddy” boasts production by Atlanta famed producer Jazze Pha and is a classic Tela track surely be a hit on the radio stations and in the club. Producer Jazze Phae who’s handwork has led to top 20 hits for Field Mob & Ciara. He has also worked with artists like Too Short, Slick Rick, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Outkast, TI, Ruben Studdard, & Nelly. On the other hand, Tela offers a twist with the hit called “Don’t Wonder”. This anthem is for the ladies, for them to recognize that brothers go through it just like they do. We give, we work hard and sometimes it just don’t seem to be enough. Another song that is bound to garner attention is “Make It Happen Fo Ya” produced by Willy Will (Nappy Roots, Flava Flav) shows how sparks fly when a southern rapper connects with the ladies, he can make things happen for yah. On the contrary he brings the heat with “Love Of The Game” which is sure to become a classic in due time. Tela has certainly elevated his game to the next level both creatively, spiritually and lyrically.

Rapper Tela, a Memphis native, is wanted in his hometown for some $128,000 in unpaid child support. According to a report from Memphis’ Eyewitness News, Tela—whose real name is Winston Rogers—has failed to pay support in over five years...

The warrant was issued after he failed to appear in Memphis & Shelby County Juvenile Court to explain the reason for the lapse. “We’ve been looking pretty much everywhere trying to identify where he is or where he might be,” says Mitch Morgan, Child Support Director of the Memphis & Shelby County Juvenile Court. “Even to the extent where we thought he was going be here doing a concert in Memphis.” Tela’s attorney, Arthur Horn, attributes his client’s failure to pay to a lack of income over the last five years due to a dispute with his record label. According to Horn, the issue has now been resolved and Rogers plans to return to Memphis soon and “clear up the mess.”
