Tha Realest, whose album comes out June 15th, has recently been doing some big things. Some notable artists have been added to his album...

Including Fat Joe, Devin The Dude, Yukmouth, and Napolean, formerly of the Outlawz. Here is what was posted on his official website, ThaRealest.com:

"Tha Realest flew to Miami, Florida 2 weeks ago to hook up with Fat Joe. They collabed for the track "Witness Tha Realest", the title track for the album. The song is hot and is likely to be the first single.

Devin The Dude and Yukmouth will be featured on the club song "Somethin Like A Playa" on Witness Tha Realest.

And lastly, Napoleon formerly of the Outlawz came through last night to record 2 tracks with Tha Realest. "Never Leave Me Alone", also featuring Kola Loc, and "I Wonder Does God Care" are the song titles. Both will make the cut."

His debut album, "Witness Tha Realest" drops on June 15th on 2Real/Navarre/Universal. For more information, check ThaRealest.com

C-Murder Denied Bond, Will Remain In Prison

Corey "C-Murder" Miller was denied a request to be released on bond from prison today (April 12) because the rapper still faces other felony charges.

State District Judge Martha Sassone made her decision based on an incident in August 2001, in which Miller was charged with attempted first-degree murder after attempting to fire a shot at the owner of a Baton Rouge nightclub.

Ronald Rakosky, Miller's lawyer, argued that Miller should be released because the state has not pursued the charges in over two years.

Miller also faces a charge of battery on a prison guard, after he allegedly attacked a guard inside of the Jefferson Parish jail. He will faces those charges in court in June.

Miller was granted a new trial last week after a judge ruled that prosecutors withheld information about the criminal pasts of several witnesses.

LOUIS LOGIC LEAVES DEMIGODZ

Louis Logic released a press release last night simultaneously on Demigodz.Com and LouisLogic.com, announcing and explaining his departure from the Demigodz crew. While Lou has recorded an album of hardcore hip-hop with rhyming partner Jay Love as The Odd Couple (titled Alcohol/Ism), he promises to take his music in a different direction with his next solo release, which is part of the reason for his departure from the crew. "It's no secret to anyone who has followed the progression of my records that I have drifted from the more traditional battle oriented, boom-bap hip-hop sound," said Louis. "Having recently begun work on my Sin-A-Matic LP follow up, I am finding that, in fact, I've wandered pretty far from the sound that made me so comfortable contributing to the Demigodz aesthetic. To be honest, I don't think I really fit in anymore. Some of the approaches I have found most fulfilling of late even go against the dictums espoused by my associates with regard to experimentation and style," he added.

From the press release, Lou's main concern seems to be the building of his name as a solo artist. "I never anticipated my crew association would overshadow my own solo efforts. I do not mean to suggest that my participation in the Demigodz has hurt me as a soloist, but rather that my solo efforts were not derived of my Demigodz affiliation. To put it simply, I spent years developing the Louis Logic catalogue, and it seems that group association has manifested itself in a chicken versus egg type confusion."

However, both Louis Logic and Celph Titled agree that despite the split, they will always remain friends, and that Lou's decision to leave only stems from artistic differences, rather than personal or political ones. Said Louis "This is not about any of the disputes between Demigodz members and other collectives. My involvement in any ongoing conflicts has been minimal to nonexistent, so there is no need for me to separate myself from them by disassociating with my home team. I will always be, first and foremost, a friend to the members of the Demigodz, and a supporter of their creative musical efforts. It is because of this friendship that it is quite possible I might appear on future works and the occasional stage performance with the remaining Demigodz, and that previously recorded songs will appear from time to time featuring my contributions."

While the rest of the Demigodz crew supports Lou's decision, Celph Titled made the statement, "Lou is my homeboy. Like, my real homeboy, not just on some rap shit. I started buildin' with him back in late '98 and we were friends before either of us were added to the "Demigodz crew" and, to this day, we're still homeboys and it will always remain that way. Demigodz represents music and business and nothing more. So anyone in the crew that I'm a personal friend of that decides to move somewhere else musically, does just that - and the friendship doesn't change or get funny."

While GM Grimm just dropped his recent 'Digital Tears: Email From Purgatory' CD on Day By Day, he's got several other projects in the works, dropping down the pipeline soon. First up, in May, Grimm will release a collaborative disc with MF Doom called 'Special Herbs and Spices', which, as in the tradition of 'I Hear Voices Parts 1 and 2' will feature Grimm's interpretation of several previously released Doom instrumentals (from the Special Herbs instrumental series). Grimm is also currently working on a collaborative EP with Vast Aire.

Meanwhile, Stronghold, the crew made up of C-Rayz Walz, Immortal Technique, Poison Pen, and Breez Evahflowin, will be dropping an album on Day By Day in the coming weeks (or months), and will follow that up with a collaborative LP between Stronghold and the M.I.C. (Monsta Island Czars) entitled 'Strong Monsters' (hah). - Pizzo

Babygrande News

Babygrande gave us a sneak peak at their 2004 release schedule, and it looks big......

First up, will be the debut album from beatsmith Sharkey, who had a short lived deal with Elektra as the producer behind the shelved Crownsayers project, and will resurface as a solo artist and deliver "Sharkey's Machine", which is to be a mostly instrumental release in the tradition of DJ Shadow or RJD2. However Sharkey's debut (May 25th) will have vocal collaborations with Grand Puba, Jean Grae, Cherrywine, and others, with the lead 12inch single featuring both Pharcyde ("Snobird") and Cannibal Ox ("Fuzz")

The Jedi Mind Tricks also have a lot in store for this year, with involvement with several different projects. First up will be the long-awaited re-release of "Violent By Design" on CD and vinyl (May 25th), now dubbed the "Deluxe Edition", which will include one brand new track, the last one Jus Allah recorded as a member of JMT, as well as two other bonus tracks that were never released on CD. It will also come packaged with a bonus DVD that will include the "Visions Of Ghandi Tour Scrapbook", as well as the "I Who Have Nothing Video". There will also be a re-release on the 12inch single for "Heavenly Devine". JMT then plan to release their fourth album ‘Legacy Of Blood' on August 24th.

Dropping the same day as the "Violent By Design: Deluxe Edition" (May 25th) will be "JMT Presents Outerspace", from Philly duo Planetary and Crypt the Warchild. As longtime affiliates of the Jedi Mind Tricks crew, the album, which is executive produced by Vinnie Paz, will collect all of the 12inch vinyl tracks from the Superegular era for those that slept. Outerspace will then follow-up with their debut album "Blood and Ashes" on July 27th.

Then, on July 13, Babygrande is proud to announce that they will be release the long-awaited 7L & Esoteric album, DC2: Bars Of Death. The first single is "This Is War" (feat. Army Of The Pharaohs), and is rumored to be directed at El-P and Vast Aire. August 10th will see the new LP from Brand Nubian, with a 12inch single for "Whatever Happened" dropping on Fat Beats in the coming weeks. Jean Grae will release an as of yet untitled album September 7th. Canibus will release the "Mic Club" LP on wax, as well as a special import only remix 12inch for "Indibisible" b/w "No Return" by Japan's DJ Hazu. - Pizzo

Neues Beastie Boys Album

für Puddah vielleicht interessant..

The title of the new Beastie Boys record is To The 5 Boroughs, and it's set to drop this summer. MTV.com reported this week that the theme of the album would be based around New York, with the usual mash-up of sounds and infuences that range from their post punk roots to their old school hip-hop foundation, mixed with call-&-response styles and the usual underlying political messages. While nothing is solid yet, here is an early look at the tentative tracklisting:

"Ch-Check It Out"
"Right Right Now Now"
"The Hard Way"
"Time to Build"
"Rhyme the Rhyme Well"
"Triple Trouble"
"Hey F--- You"
"Oh Word?"
"That's It That's All"
"All Lifestyles"
"Shazam!"
"An Open Letter to NYC"
"Crawlspace"
"The Brouhaha"
"We Got The"

The new album will once again feature Mix Master Mike on the wheels of steel. The lead single 'Ch-Ch-Check It Out' will ship to radio 4/27. - Pizzo / Matt Conaway

8Ball And MJG: When The Smoke Clears…
By Tai St. Louis

When preparing to meet a legend, we’re never quite sure what to expect. On the one hand, we tend to be nervous. After all, here is someone who’s found a way to not only outlive their peers, in whatever arena they might operate, but who’s also done so well in their field as to stand out, be noticed, and inspire an entire generation, if not two. Add to that the fact that these are Hip-Hop legends, and panic may ensue. Rappers are not really known for their humility.

But legends, living legends in particular, rarely place themselves on a pedestal. And Eightball and MJG are no exception to that rule. The Memphis duo has consistently released an album almost each year for the past 10 years. While the music industry lived out it’s on again, off again, relationship with the South, they’ve remained on the grind, forging the way for everyone from Master P to T.I.

In the process, their music brings you home. After having developed their brand of “space-age pimpin,” Ball & G seem to make music that is left up to listener to interpret. They’re not forcing anything on you. They’re not suggesting you go into a life of crime. They’re just telling you what their lives were like. “At the end of the day, “ says MJG, “whether the day was good or bad or whatever, this our outlet right now.”

And this is exactly what you get when an MC is in the game for the love of the music. When 8Ball and MJG released their first album, 1993’s Comin’ Out Hard, there was no MTV Cribs and platinum plaques were not an expectation rappers had to deal with. But perhaps that actual climate is what limited their success and led to a mainstream recognition ten years in the making. As 8Ball sees it, “Everything happen for a reason, I guess. We just did what we did, it’s just looked at like that now. But it wasn’t looked at like that then, cuz everybody was really finding they place --the South, the East, the West – at one time. We get something, we love it for a minute, and then we want something else. That’s just how everything been. You know this same Southern explosion has happened time over again, this just another time in history.”

That Southern explosion has definitely returned. Heralded by Lil’ Jon crunk-mania, label’s are now scrambling for a piece of the Dirty. Bad Boy Records is no different. Two years before the infatuation with crunk music truly took hold, the label snatched up 8Ball and MJG in a surprising, if not baffling, power move. First we wondered how such a marriage could occur. For one executive at Bad Boy, it seemingly makes perfect sense: “8Ball and MJG are to down South what Biggie was to New York and what Tupac was to the West Coast.” For Ball and G themselves, the recognition of their worth is just an added bonus. Their original motivation was simply their music.

AllHipHop.com: Now, I read an interview that you did right after signing with Bad Boy, and you were talking about the freedom and the creative control. So now two years later, is that working out the way that you had expected it to?

MJG: Yeah. Pretty much. We picked whatever we wanna to be on, came up with our own concept, and you know, went our own direction with each song.

AllHipHop.com: Everybody’s heard stories, everybody knows, it’s been very publicized of the artists that weren’t happy with Bad Boy. Is that something that you were worried about coming into the situation?

8Ball: Not really, I mean we kinda came in and kinda stated everything that we really wanted to happen. And that’s why we here.

Creative control and recognition of talent is exactly what was missing with each of 8Ball and MJG’s last to label homes, Suave House and JCOR. With Suave, explains MJG, “We didn’t have any control over business or nothing like that. And we were the first and ever artists on the label to go nationwide with it. So we were like their artists to even make the label to be a label. But, we didn’t have equal share of it like that. And, we just had to move on.”

JCOR, on the other hand, was presented with what may have actually been one of the most slept on albums of the South: 2000’s Space Age 4 Eva. Yet the album’s sales came no where close to the critical acclaim it received. “[JCOR] was making a lot of wrong decisions on the promotional side, on the marketing side,” says 8Ball of the mistakes made with the classical album.

“Then a lot of the background stuff that they was doing, like a lot of the other things that they was doing was taking away from what they shoulda been doing with us. And then you know like, you get this bum rap in the “industry” because you miss a couple of interviews and shit, for reasons that people think… People think just because they see us smoking weed all the time or we look like we high all the time, that’s what we doin’ all the time. They didn’t really understand that a lot of the shit we was missing was because of life going on. And they kinda gave us a bum rap on that, and really didn’t get behind us like they should’ve. They didn’t know what they had.”

So now the only question left is that of the music that will come from the marriage of 8Ball & MJG, Memphis Pioneers, and Bad Boy Records, home of Making the Band and creating the artist. “Now we trying to really drill it into Bad Boy, Universal already know,” continues 8Ball. “If we get the same promotions and marketing, and the push that the average group that they sign get, the proof is in the pudding: they’ll see what we supposed to do.” And the music is speaking for itself indeed. Advance cuts from the duo’s Bad Boy debut, Living Legends (scheduled for a May 11 release) show 8Ball & MJG in top form. And the video for the first single “You Don’t Want Drama,” proves that they’ll have P. Diddy throwin’ ‘bows way before he can get Ball & G fitted for shiny suits.

And if the title’s swagger has you a little skeptical: says 8Ball, “It was kinda given to us. We just heard it so much and the staff who was working with us at Bad Boy was just like, ‘that’ll be a perfect title.’” Asked how he feels under the weight of such a title, MJG replies, “At this point in time, I would rather be a living legend than a dead one.”

Lil' Flip's third solo set, U Gotta Feel Me, entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at Number Four this week after selling more than 198,000 copies. The rapper hopes to build on the momentum by launching his own liquor, Lucky Nites, on May 1.

Recently LAUNCH asked the rapper to describe the new drink, which is pineapple-flavored. He said: "It taste like an Amaretto Sour, but it's way stronger than that sh-t."

Flip explained that he was pleased with the deal for the new drink because he was given creative control over the drink's flavor and packaging. The rapper said: "It was like 'Hey, here go your money. You can name it. You can pick how you want to taste it and you own a part of it.'

Lil' Kim news

Lil' Kim was charged in New York yesterday (April 13) with conspiracy to commit perjury, making false statements and obstructing justice in connection with a 2001 shootout involving her entourage that left one man wounded.

The rapper, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, turned herself in at U.S. District Court in Manhattan, where she was scheduled to appear in court later in the day. Also charged in the case were Damion Butler, one of her managers, bodyguard Suif Jackson and a friend, Monique Dopwell.

Jones, who lives in Englewood, N.J., was accused in an indictment of not cooperating with authorities investigating a Feb. 25, 2001, shootout involving members of her entourage and associates of a rival hip-hopper outside the offices of radio station WQHT New York (Hot 97).

"These charges are baseless and I'm confident that the case against her will be completely dismissed," said her lawyer, Mel Sachs.

Authorities said they believe the shooting happened as Lil' Kim's entourage was leaving the radio studio and the entourage of the rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga was arriving. One man in the latter's entourage was wounded in the ensuing shootout. The indictment said Jackson, Dopwell and at least one other person fired guns. It did not specify a motive for the shootout.

In the indictment, prosecutors alleged that Jones refused on the day after the shooting to tell police the identities of anyone who had accompanied her to an appearance at the radio station.

On three separate occasions last year before a federal grand jury in Manhattan, she testified falsely, saying Butler was not at the radio station the day of the shooting and that she did not know Jackson, prosecutors alleged. Sachs said he accompanied his client to the grand jury appearances but was not permitted to sit with her as she testified.

After Lil' Kim surrendered yesterday, she was processed by U.S. marshals and interviewed by the federal pretrial services department prior to a court appearance. Lawyers for the other defendants could not immediately be identified.

According to sources, veteran rap label Def Jam has inked incarcerated rapper Shyne to a record deal.

Shyne was sentenced to a 10-year bid in 2001 after being convicted in a high profile nightclub shooting in Manhattan. Where he ends up after he leaves prison has always been the talk of much speculation.

Under the deal, Def Jam has created a custom label for the rapper, Gangland Records.

The deal will give Shyne a nice payday, as it is worth a purported $3 million dollars.

The signing would be a coup for Def Jam, who recently lost their CEO and Chairman Lyor Cohen to Warner Music.

Def Jam President Kevin Liles was responsible for signing the rapper and visited him several times during his incarceration.

Liles resigned as President of the record label when contract negotiations with parent label Universal fell through.

He recently renegotiated and retained his title as President. The signing would also be a plus for Antonio "L.A." Reid, who is known for his keen ability to spot talent.

The first record released under the deal will consist mainly of material Shyne recorded before his incarceration.

Shyne's self-titled debut album has moved over 900,000 units to date. The new album may drop as early as October.

Rapper T.I. is currently incarcerated after the rapper willingly surrendered to authorities last month, because of various open court cases the Atlanta resident has accumulated through the years.

T.I., who currently has a hit song called “Rubberband Man,” was supposed to perform at “Wildsplash,” an event hosted by a Tampa radio station.

Before going to jail, T.I. phoned the radio station to explain to disappointed fans why he couldn’t make the show.

“I was doing a little living on the wrong side of the law, so I gotta a lot of loose ends to tie up legitimately before I can further my career,” T.I. told Tampa’s Wild 98.7.

Continuing, he said, “Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you, you just gotta deal with those skeletons in your closet. I been hearing a lot of nonsense as far as a cat having bodies and it ain’t really like that. Its just cases that I caught a minute ago that I never dealt with. I didn’t even know the cases were open. Years go by, but the paper work is still there. We got the best lawyers in the city on it and we are just trying to work it out. Once that happens, it’s back to ballin.”

While he didn’t specify the nature of the charges against him, the Grand Hustle CEO said that the charges were without merit.

“Cats saying ‘I heard T.I. doing this, I heard he got his hands in that.’ Eventually if your name keeps coming up, then you are going to be the spotlight of an investigation sooner or later. I done been off that side of the street for a long time. It don’t matter how much snitching a hater think he do, it don’t matter how much investigating the FBI does, they ain’t gonna find nothing, so I am not really worried.”

The rapper said he felt that a person rising in society can at times be more harmful than racial discrimination.

“Older people see younger people doing better than them, they don’t like,” T.I. said. “Cats 45-50 years old still working, ready to retire, then they see me balling. I’m riding on 24’s, got $70,000 worth of jewelry on, carrying $12,000 worth of cash at a time, they hate that. There’s a lot of stuff to over come.”

T.I. said that hard work is what led his success and that he was bred to go out and make money for himself, not for others.

“It ain’t my fault your parents taught you to go work for someone else for years to get a little money to be able to not go to work the last 3-4 years of your life. I was taught to go out and get it. There’s a lot of money out there to be got one way or the other.”

Unlike other members in his family, T.I. said that his work ethic allowed him to create something positive out of his gritty surroundings in Atlanta.

“Whatever I had to do to get to where I am, that’s what I did. Bottom line is I came from nothing. My Momma was on welfare, my uncle did ten years, my daddy was away, I bought my first car at 14, bought my Momma her first car at 14,” he said.

“What I am is what the streets made me. I am a product of my environment, good or bad. I don’t anticipate doing any time. It ain’t like I stand a chance of doing 10 years or any of that.”

T.I.'s second CD Trap Muzik approaches certified gold status. Atlantic Records had no comment.
