According to sources, rapper Foxy Brown has signed a deal with Jay-Z’s new label, S. Carter Records.

A source revealed that the deal has not been officially announced, because Carter has not settled on a distribution deal for his new imprint.

“Lyor [Cohen] was with Jay-Z in Chicago on tour and LA Reid was with him soon after,” a source speaking under the condition of anonymity told AllHipHop.com. “He is getting offers from everybody but since the Roc-A-Fella deal is not really done nothing can be made official.”

The signing would reunite the Brooklyn pair, both of whom at one point were both under contract to Def Jam.

In previous reports, LA Reid made it known that he was seeking to buy the Roc-A-Fella imprint from partners Dame Dash, Kareem “Biggs” Burke and Jay-Z.

Sources stated that deal hit a snag because the Roc-A-Fella partners felt the amount Reid was offering, which is stated to be around $20 million dollars, is too low for the label.

In early 2003, Brown had a nasty public falling out with former Def Jam chairman Lyor Cohen. The two clashed shortly after Brown re-signed with Def Jam Records in a joint venture with Sean “P. Diddy's” Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment.

She also negotiated an Ill Na Na Entertainment label deal with the Universal Music Group.

Her highly anticipated album Ill Na Na 2: The Fever was shelved and eventually Foxy was released from her contract with Def Jam.

Cohen later departed from his Island Def Jam position and now heads up the North American operations of Warner Music Group, taking top executives Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald with him and LA Reid took over Island Def Jam.

Brown has kept busy, launching a line of custom furs and accessories and is currently developing a reality series for MTV.
Album details were not available as of press-time.

High-level sources at Def Jam recently told the LA Times they didn't expect Shyne's new album to pick up steam at this point and are prepared to abandon the project.

Shyne's album, Godfather Buried Alive, was released on August 10th after an extensive media and marketing blitz including the cover of Vibe's Juice issue, an MTV special and radio and web interviews. But despite the hoopla, the album sold a disappointing 158,000 CDs units the week of his August 10th debut and has sold only 354,000 copies to date.

For Def Jam, the Shyne album is unhappily a financial failure. The label spent $3 million to sign Shyne after a bidding war last year. An additional $1 million was spent to market and record the record. Based upon record sales revenue alone, the album has only recovered about $1.3 million of the cash invested in it. And with the current downward sales trend - just 15,000 units sold last week - Def Jam is reportedly preparing to abandon the project.

Shyne stated early on that he wasn't in it for the sales, happy with the opportunity to be relevant and record again after four years in jail.

"Wherever I go motherf#@$ers respect me," Shyne told SOHH.com in an exclusive interview. "You have ni99as go their whole careers to get that type of respect and admiration. For me just to have one album... sh!t I don't care what the sh!t do."

come back to bad boy :ugly:

Zitat:
BABYGRANDE PARTNERS WITH VIPER RECORDS TO RELEASE IMMORTAL
TECHNIQUE'S MIDDLE PASSAGE LP

Babygrande Records is proud to announce it has entered into a
partnership with Viper Records to release the next album from one of
the hottest and most important artists in hip-hop, Immortal Technique.

"After considering the many major label and independent offers I
received for the distribution of the next record I decided on
babygrande for many reasons: I saw their distribution power through
Koch, their solid reputation at retail, and their promotional
capabilities as an asset to the team that I had built up. I received
contractual agreements that were the most financially stable in the
long run for the situation I am setting up.

Chuck Wilson and I worked for months to make a suitable agreement and
we found that we are both on same page business-wise for this project.
I am very grateful for the support Nature Sounds and Caroline/EMI gave
me but this was a step I needed to take to advance the scale of the
project.

This album is going to different from the Revolutionary series.
Whereas Revolutionary Vol.2 was a response to the government
influenced media coverage of terrorism and the addressing of several
industry and hood issues, The Middle Passage is a more broad and
more harsh approach. It is an album that will bring Technique back to
the streets on which he started hustling and will have a wider variety
of subject matter for people to feel," explained Immortal Technique
from his Harlem, NY headquarters.

"After hearing Tech's first album in 2002 I knew he was a special
artist -- you can't help but think about the messages and lives of
people like Che Guevara, Malcolm X, Bob Marley and many others of
similar stature when listening to his music. His ability to marry his
political, socio-economic and historical perspectives with his
authentic, real-life street upbringing makes his art potent, unique
and entertaining...and his live show is incredible. I was at the first
show he ever performed in LA and it was sold out. Without
exaggeration, it seemed like every person in the venue knew every word
to every song he performed. It was at that moment I knew that I had to
work with this artist.

I'm also an admirer of Tech's entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic --
he literally produced, manufactured and distributed his first two
albums from the streets of Harlem which is a great achievement in and
of itself. Moreover, he genuinely wants to touch the lives of the less
privileged and does so with both his music and his life.

In these trying times of war, terrorism, and world-wide instability,
Immortal Technique is an important artist not only for hip-hop fans,
but for the world," says Babygrande CEO, Chuck Wilson

Immortal Technique's Middle Passage LP will be released world-wide
some time in 2005. Babygrande and Viper are also discussing the
release of a DVD documentary about Immortal Technique's life and
experiences as a hip-hop artist.

The DVD, Chronicles of Junior Mafia which was slated to drop on October 26th will now be released on November 23rd. Executive produced by Lil' Cease and Ms. Voletta Wallace, Chronicles of Junior M.A.F.I.A. will touch hearts and spark debates over what really happened the night of March 9, 1997 when The Notorious B.I.G. was shot and killed from multiple gunshot wounds. What was going on at that last hour? How did it happen? Why is the L.A.P.D. a defendant in America's largest wrongful death lawsuit? Who is the Junior M.A.F.I.A.? And why were they so important to Biggie Smalls A.K.A. Notorious B.I.G.? What happened with Lil' Kim personally and professionally? P. Diddy? These and many other questions are answered but more important, how is the M.A.F.I.A. carrying the legacy of Biggie Smalls A.K.A. Notorious B.I.G.? With special commentary from Ms. Voletta Wallace, Jay-Z, Ma$e, Damon Dash, Jadakiss and personal video and photographs from Lil' Cease, Ms. Wallace and other M.A.F.I.A. members, we will get to see an insider's story not available before. Special Features include full length Biggie, M.A.F.I.A. music videos, exclusive concert performances, an intimate photo album and a "mix tape" CD featuring Junior M.A.F.I.A. with Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Jadakiss.

STAT QUO ALBUM NEWS
"Statlanta" will feature production from the best in Dr. Dre, Eminem as well as LT Mo from Stat's camp. The album is scheduled to release in the second quarter to 2005. With Eminem's Encore LP getting closer to being released, can we expect a Stat Quo appearance is something people may wonder. "You gotta see!" Stat told BallerStatus laughingly. "If you were Eminem and you had an artist that you wanted people to hear, wouldn’t you want to expose him to as many people as possible?"

With momentum and time on his side, Stat Quo is consistently leaving his mark in the streets via his Underground Atlanta mixtape series. He is currently preparing to drop his latest installment titled Underground Atlanta Vol. 4, which should hit streets in November, early December.(Ballerstatus)

Beanie Sigel prepares for prison

NEW YORK (AP) -- Like a man given only a few months to live, Beanie Sigel has spent this year getting his business affairs in order.

The rapper known for grimy depictions of thug life has worked overtime to complete his third album, "The B-Coming," so it can be released in December. He's finished all his scenes in the sequel to the 2002 gangsta flick "State Property," which he starred in. And he's spent the last few days filming multiple music videos, even though they might not air for months.

Sigel isn't dying - but his life will change dramatically on Friday, when he's expected to be sentenced in a Philadelphia courtroom to about three years in prison on federal drug and weapons charges. And that won't end his legal troubles - he still faces a January retrial on an attempted murder charge.

"(I'm) just settin' things up just in case I gotta go away, for my family - make sure everybody live comfortably, and maintains livin' how they maintain living now," Sigel, born Dwight Grant, said cooly during an interview at his Roc-A-Fella record label offices. "I gotta do that. Gotta plan and strategize."

"You can't never prepare yourself for it," Sigel said of his potential sentence. "You can set things up for other people who depend on you. But for yourself, you can't prepare yourself to go to jail, because you never know how it's going to be."

Although he may not be prepared for prison, Sigel has sold more than a million records glamorizing a criminal lifestyle. Like many of his peers, the majority of his raps depict drug slinging, gun toting, killing and torturing enemies, outwitting police, and worse - on one recent mixtape, he even raps about raping a pregnant woman.

While dozens of rappers from Jay-Z to P. Diddy have run afoul of the law, only about a half-dozen hip-hoppers with Sigel's star power have done prison time. Still, Sigel insists that the life he portrays only represents how he grew up - a poor child of Philadelphia, surrounded by drugs and crime - and does not reflect the way he lives today.

"I may rap about a certain thing ... (but) that's not me. I'm an entertainer, so I'm playing a role. That person that you see in 'State Property' the movie, or you hear on one of those songs - that's what I do to make money, that's my job," said Sigel. "Just like any actor. Like I said before, you've got the Terminator who's the governor. He kills up everybody in his movies."

But Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't have the rap sheet to go along with the image. Police say Sigel's been getting into trouble since he was a teen, and in 1996 he received probation after pleading guilty to drug possession with intent to deliver.

Two critically and commercially successful albums - 1999's "The Truth and 2001's "The Reason" - made him a certified rap star. But in 2001, he was arrested for assault twice.

His most serious problems began last year, when in three separate instances he was charged with assault, drug and weapons offenses and then attempted murder for a shooting that left a man seriously injured. The attempted murder trial ended in a mistrial this spring.

Sigel pleaded guilty earlier this year to drugs and weapons charges; in the interview, he declined to discuss why. However, he proclaimed he's innocent of attempted murder, and repeatedly said he was being persecuted because he's a rich black rapper.

"We control a situation that generates billions of dollars for ourself, and we dominate in this. Yeah we've been targeted," he says of rappers. "If you're successful at something, somebody's gonna want a piece of it, and if they can't get a piece of it, they're gonna wanna destroy it."

Damon Dash, who co-founded the Roc-A-Fella label with Jay-Z, agreed.

"They're going to use his lyrical content ... to back up what their suspicions are. I definitely believe he's a victim of perception," he said.

Cathie Abookire, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia district attorney, denied that: "Beanie Sigel is going on trial for an attempted murder. That is why he was he was arrested, that is why he was charged, and that is why he's going to trial."

Sigel didn't help his image by promoting his State Property clothing line with boasts that the jeans had special pockets for hiding weapons. Sigel now says that was a publicity stunt.

"Controversy sells. We ain't never made no jeans that could hold no weapons ... it was just something to draw attention," he said, smiling.

Sigel has maintained his wide smile throughout his troubles. However, he said he worries about the fate of his five children, his mother and the people who have come to depend on him.

Dash said he'll be helping take care of business and supporting his friend while he's behind bars: "He'll definitely come home to something. I'll definitely keep him in the public eye as much as possible."

And Sigel said he's not going to worry.

"People plan but God's the best of the planners. Whatever plan they got for me, it ain't gonna be nothin' compared to what God's got for me."

Philly rapper Beanie Sigel was sentenced today for being a felon in possession of a gun and for possession of drugs.

Sigel was sentenced to a year in prison for an April 20, 2003 incident. He was also given two years probation and must pay a $25,000 fine.

Sigel was accused of leading police on a high speed chase and foot pursuit. During the chase, the rapper tossed a stolen .45 semiautomatic pistol loaded with nine rounds.

A search of his SUV turned up a variety of drugs.

Judge R. Barclay Surrick sentenced Sigel. In the past, Surrick gave Sigel leniency, allowing Sigel to perform, travel to New York and record new material.

In a three page letter, Sigel had requested mercy from the judge with respect to his mandatory sentence.

“I had let myself get caught up in something,” Sigel said, referring to an addiction to drugs.

Sigel completed a 28-day inpatients program at the Hazelden clinic in Minnesota. According to court records, Sigel was addicted to drugs by the age of 14 and would smoke a quarter ounce of marijuana per day.

He was also taking as many as six Percocet and Zanax per day.

“He convinced himself that drugs were necessary for him to produce better music,” his attorneys said.

Surrick said he showed Sigel leniency due to the rapper’s recent charitable efforts and the fact that he completed the drug program.

Sigel is still attending individual and group therapy. The defense argued that Sigel’s recent troubles were due to stress from work and family responsibilities.

Prosecutors painted a different Sigel, pointing to his past criminal record and two violent incidents last year.

Sigel is awaiting trial for allegedly punching a 53-year-old man in the face. He will also go on trial a second time, for allegedly shooting another man in the stomach outside of a Philadelphia bar. The first trial ended in a hung jury.

“The history of violence, use of firearms and drug dealing indicates that the defendant is a danger to the community and that he is likely to commit other crimes,” prosecutors said.

Shooting the $118 million "XXX: State of the Union" has been a different sort of movie experience for Ice Cube.

"This movie's taking up a lot of time," the rapper said during a break at a
soundstage last week.

Between training for the role and shooting all summer in Baltimore, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., Cube has had little opportunity to work at his other job. An album planned for late '04 is now looking like a fall 2005 release (see "Ice Cube Ready To Work On Solo LP, Still In Talks With Dre").

In the meantime, Cube has found the time to do one track and hopes to do another before his "XXX" sequel hits theaters.

"I did a single with Lil Jon. He from the dirty dirty, so it's gotta be gutter. He flew out here and we put it down. I think he's doin' a rock version of it. It's called 'The Real N---a Roll Call,' so we had to do it right."

The song, which has been called "Roll Call" on mixtapes, will be featured on Jon's Crunk Juice, due November 16 (see "Lil Jon Mixing Up A Potent New Batch Of Crunk Juice"). Cube and Jon are also talking about teaming to do a song for the "XXX: State of the Union" soundtrack.

"I want something hard," Cube said. "So we been kinda putting our brains together trying to come up with it."

But while Cube's been hitting it off with Jon, talks regarding teaming up with Dr. Dre have fizzled.

"I don't know if that situation is gonna work out, but who knows," said Cube, who was poised to record with Dre and sign to the producer's Aftermath imprint (see "Dr. Dre To Produce Next Ice Cube Record"). "Dre got real busy last year, and the year before that he dropped 50. So I'm doing my thing, he doing his. I'd love to [work with] him."

On the movie front, Cube can next be seen alongside Jay Mohr and Nia Long in "Are We There Yet?," opening January 28. "I play a bachelor who don't like kids, [and I'm] trying to get with their mother, and of course they don't like me," Cube said. "So we kind of meet in the middle and by the end of the day we're at each other's throats."

"XXX: State of the Union" follows a few months later, on May 13

war & peace vol.3 is coming :ugly:

Puffy's Next Movie: 'Carlito II'

Sean Combs — aka P. Diddy — is about to make his next foray into films. I hear he's made a deal to star in the remake of "Carlito's Way," the 1993 Brian De Palma classic with Sean Penn and Al Pacino.

The new movie, "Carlito's Way: The Beginning," will begin production shortly and will be written and directed by Michael S. Bregman, son of producer Martin Bregman.

Bregman told me recently, "I think this one is going to be better than the first one."

It had better be for Combs' sake. His Bad Boy Entertainment record company is suffering from poor sales on Mase's big return with "Welcome Back." The CD has sold only 413,000 copies according to SoundScan, and from that you must deduct the royalty payment to John Sebastian for use of the song "Welcome Back." Ouch! It might have been less expensive to not come back at all.

Otherwise, Bad Boy is a floundering enterprise over at Universal Music, which is still getting over paying off Combs' flank man, Shyne, $3 million in advance for an album that didn't sell and a record label no one cares about. Then there are those stories of Mariah Carey (see Wednesday's column) and the crazy idea that rapper Jay-Z will soon be running Island/Def Jam Records.

Combs' new movie move adds to his repertoire after decent performances in "Monster's Ball" and "Made." Last summer he appeared in Broadway's "A Raisin in the Sun." Clearly he wants to be a professional actor. At least there's less overhead than in running a record label.

And let's not forget his clothing line. While Sean Jean is said to be popular, so far the new retail shop on Fifth Avenue is said to be underperforming. Gray-hooded cashmere sweatshirts may not be as necessary this fall as we thought!

:bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

Gay-Newz

G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks has denied that he is the man having gay sex in a video circulating on the internet.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the rapper bears a similar likeness to a gay porn star named Ty Lattimore, the actual culprit in the recording.

The man in the video does not have any of the familiar markings of Banks, namely his extensive tattoos.

Rampant rumors charge that the video was made when Banks, 22, was a minor. His reps swatted the thought away.

“This is similar to the Jay-Z video where he is ‘slapping’ that woman,” the rep said. “It’s a short clip that lets people start s**t. The truth is, its not Banks.”

Banks has a very heterosexual video on deck. “Groupie Luv” is an interactive double DVD that allows the viewer to select the girl he wants to fantasize over.

"It's gonna be great, it will seem like you will be the one having sex," Banks said in a previous statement.
