As the first female rapper ever signed to Master P’s No Limit Records back in the 90’s, Mia X’s career was flowing smoothly and her future was seemingly sound – that was, until one tragic day when she received the first of what would prove to be a string of horrifying news. Within an 18-month period, Mia X would lose not only both of her parents, but fourteen other family members as well, undoubtably pushing her into a place of dim uncertainty and a whole new element of self-dependancy.

But after much healing and life re-structuring, Mia X is back with her first official mixtape, called Unladylike Forever, dropping soon, and her long overdue, highly-anticipated fourth studio set, Betty Rocka-Locksmith, to follow shortly after. Also celebrating the grand opening of her brand new restaraunt, Supper Club, located in New Orleans, it seems there truly is no limit to Mia X’s fortitude and strength of mind.

Pulling up to a million dollar mansion in an innocuous but wealthy neighborhood, I double checked the address to make sure it was correct... it was.

Two wrought iron gates stood in front of me and a bevy of security cameras and an intercom flanked my car. I dialed the button and the gates ominously opened. Boisterous and charismatic, Slim walked out and greeted me. "What up cuz. Not too many people make it behind these doors."


We walked inside his house and he sat down, offering me a drink. The phone rang and I heard an eerily familiar voice, "What up." "What's good unc?". "I'm leaving Detroit and back in town this week. Let's link up." "Fasho". Slim calmly hung up the phone and looked at me, "That was Dre. Detox is done".

Shrouded in mystery, Slim the Mobster is the next protege of a man who needs no introduction whatsoever. Having written over 70% of Detox and the latest single, "Kush" he is next on deck after the long awaited Detox drops this year. Preferring to keep a low profile, we had the rare opportunity to sit down with him for one of the most in depth interviews he has given in his career. Below is part one of that interview.

Kevin "Flipside" White and Ronald "Low M.B." Watkins grew up in the Nickerson Gardens projects in Watts, CA witnessing first-hand the harsh realities of life. Coming up from the bottom, they were signed early on in their career to Big Beat Records were they had released then their only album entitled “Straight Up Watts” in 1992 with the hit single “Slangin’ Dope".

Signed to Death Row Records during the mid-90’s, the group made several appearances on key projects for the label, such as the double-platinum soundtracks to films like Above The Rim (“Crack ’Em”), Murder Was The Case (“Hot One”) and Gang Related (“Keep Your Eyes Open”), as well as the gold-selling Gridlock'd Soundtrack (“Body And Soul”). Alongside some of the greatest names the music industry has ever known like Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, 2Pac, and Snoop Dogg, O.F.T.B. were making their mark at the legendary west coast label.

Dubcnn sits down with Flip & Lo MB of the famed O.F.T.B. group to discuss what’s been going on with them over recent years, how they feel about finally being able to release their original Death Row work, working with the late, great 2Pac Shakur, what the future holds for them, and so much more!
