Produced almost entirely by dynamic Houston-based producer ATD, former Galapagos4 affiliate SKECH185 boisterously articulates the premise of the New Age Middle Finger, “You’re ALL being lied to.” In this 13-track excursion into the possible world of SKECH185 and ATD, we are reminded of the fact that many “truths” we take for granted are fabrications spread by the powerful few to subjugate the masses. New Age Middle Finger is the renouncement of cancerous societal norms in all of their forms, opting for blatant reality over deceptive bliss. In “Christmas,” SKECH disintegrates the Christ virgin birth myth, revealing its religious origins in African and Middle Eastern cultures, reducing it to “…a story of a story of a story.” The k-the-i?? produced “The Truth” is an amalgam of raw, unbridled statements about SKECH and the world, beginning with the line “I’ll fuck any female friend I had if given a chance.” “Surgeon General Warning” begins with SKECH over an ATD twangy banjo and boom bap instrumental taking the role of an old man giving advice and ends with a signature battle rhyme destined to devastate any opponent foolish enough to step in front of it. ATD’s breakbeat oriented and sonically sinister style of production parallels the rough vocal tone and abrasive thoughts that SKECH185 is known and loved or hated for, creating a sense of maniacal ordered aesthetic chaos. In a nutshell, New Age Middle Finger is a philosophical reawakening of unbiased honesty as not something we say, but as something we live, a way of life that can serve as a surrogate salvaging structure to implement in a world rooted in smokescreens.
