As the New South continues to be the dominant voice of today’s Hip-Hop culture, a new group has emerged that will redefine the worlds perception of Southern Hip-Hop. Hailing from Decatur, GA, the unofficial capital of Atlanta’s Eastside, Trilltown Mafia is comprised of Big Mel, Monte’ C, Legacy and Lil J-Rok is more than prepared to take on that task. The foursome has already distinguished itself from the myriad crews reppin the A, not just by their musical style, but also by their approach to entering the game. Rather than finding a gimmick to bring their career aspirations to light, Trilltown Mafia has a strong game plan and the support of the right executive team to see that plan through. That team is headed by Don P of Trillville,CEO of the newly founded imprint, Trillvillans, Inc. The young mogul brought the group together during their high school days on the Eastside, and helped mold the group’s image and sound. He also played an instrumental role in readying the group’s debut album, It Goes Without Saying, for its August 2006 release, providing the majority of the production for the project, which will be released via Rap-A-Lot/Asylum Records. And is he certain that this group will take Atlanta rap to the next level? Well check the album title! Between their individual personalities, limitless talent and cohesiveness as a group, it just goes without saying that Trilltown Mafia will be the hottest new group in 2006!
Standing at an intimidating 6’2 tall and weighing in at 260lbs, Big Mel is well suited for his role as Trilltown Mafias leader. While his physical appearance fits the stereotypical image of an Eastside thug - down to the white Tee, Girbaud jeans, Braves fitted, and gold grill - Big Mel has used his skills as a lyricist to leave behind the street life he entered at the young age of 12. He now chooses his imposing presence to command attention, making sure that others hear what he and his crew have to say. With his slow drawl and southern flair, Monte’C embodies the heart and soul of a young pimp. His true-to-life lyrics and witty punch lines instantly reel in the D-Boys and Hustlers who run the streets he’s managed to side-step. Yet he combines that slick wit with a finesse that makes the ladies melt - and he is fully prepared for the groupie love. Although Lil J-Rok was raised in Southwest Atlanta, aka SWATS, he had no problem adapting to his surroundings after relocating to Decatur in high school. Born into a family of musicians, Lil J-Rok - also known as Young Fella - always knew where his future would lie, and found nothing but support for the talent he showed at a very early age. Last but not least is Legacy, the first lady of Trilltown Mafia. Gifted with an infectious voice that dominates any track she graces, and a natural talent for drawing lyrics, Legacy has proven time and again that she can hold her own against any rapper - male or female. Armed with the heart of a lion and the brain of a shark, as she puts it, Legacy doesn’t put any effort into standing above other female rappers; she’s just that b**ch!
Under the tutelage of Trillville, Atlanta’s unofficial Ambassadors of Crunk, the members of Trilltown Mafia have not only honed their skills, but learned what it takes to form an invincible group. And having more than paid their dues, the group has already earned the support of some of the biggest names in Atlanta’s entertainment scene, including rapper/producer Lil Jon. In addition to their album, which was completed even before the support of a mainstream label, the artists will be featured both independently and as a group on Trillville’s forthcoming release, Trillville Reloaded, and Bohagon’s solo debut, tentatively titled The Power Move adding to an impressive resume that already includes countless club performances and mix-tape appearances. This is going to be the group of the year, says Don P. If you miss that old school Atlanta gangsta sound, that’s what they giving you.
The album hits stores August 22nd and features Sara Stokes, Pimp C, Trillville, Lloyd, and Skip from UTP.
