Dubcnn reached out to Devin The Dude to get the real deal about him leaving Rap-A-Lot Records, the rumors about him signing to Aftermath and his new mixtape "Smoke Sessions Vol. 1".

"Waitin' To Inhale was my last album on Rap-A-Lot, it got to a point where it was the of end it, my contract ended and I decided not to renew it. There are no bad vibes between me and the label or anything, everything is good, I just decided to move on", he said about his decision.

About the recent rumours of him working with Dr. Dre and signing to Aftermath Records, he had the following to say: "Aftermath? Nah, that's not true. It would probably be a cool thing, but it's not true. Right now I'm just doing my independent thing, working, doing my Coughee Brothas project, we got the "Waitin Our Turn" album out right now. I did get a few phone calls from Dre's people, wanting me to be a part of the "Detox" project, but it hasn't happened yet. I would love to be on it, and hopefully I will."

He's getting ready to release a new mixtape called "Smoke Sessions Vol. 1", which recently leaked to the internet. "It's crazy with the technologies these days, the mixtape was supposed to come out in April. But I heard the quality on the leaked version isn't right, and that's not how it's supposed to sound, so you're gonna have to wait for the real thing!"

Devin the Dude Sets Date for Smoke Sessions Vol. 1

Houston MC Devin the Dude is set to release his newest project, Smoke Sessions vol. 1, through BCD Music Group Inc. The mixtape will be the first installment of a series of Smoke Sessions volumes to be released this year by Devin and his longtime collaborators Coughee Brothaz and is scheduled to hit stores on April 1st...


Smoke Sessions vol. 1 is Devin's first release since leaving Rap-A-Lot Records, his label of 14 years, earlier this month and also comes on the heels of his fourth solo album, Waiting to Inhale, released in March of 2007 to critical acclaim. In fact, Devin's been called "your favorite rapper's favorite rapper" since making waves in the underground with a guest appearance on Scarface's My Homies and releasing his first solo album The Dude both in 1998. His appearance on Dr. Dre's "F*ck You" pushed him further into the mainstream and led to more collaborations with the likes of De La Soul, UGK, Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Nas, Lil Jon, The Roots, and more.


Smoke Sessions vol. 1 finds Devin teaming up with his Odd Squad crew and guest artists for 16 new tracks.

Bin eigentlich n großer fan von devin, aber das mixtape hat mich doch enttäuscht, auch wenns nur n mixtape is... bin von devin besseres gewohnt.. sind 2 gute tracks drauf meiner meinung nach, gettin high, welcher auch aufm on the grind mixtape is und da real thang.

Houston rapper Devin The Dude has reportedly found a new recording home in New York based independent label, Razor & Tie.

According to Billboard, Devin has signed a one-album deal with the label and will be releasing his fifth album titled Landing Gear this fall.

“Razor mostly does metal and punk and I had a couple of deals on the table,” Devin told Billboard. “Koch was interested but I chose to go with Razor because they made it easy and the numbers were right. While I wouldn't want to stand in line, waiting for my project to come out behind other artists, I wouldn't mind a larger label. Razor & Tie just came with a cool proposition.”

Landing Gear will feature production from The Coughee Brothers and The Odd Squad. Devin is also planning a 30 state college tour in October.

As reported earlier, Devin severed ties with Rap-A-Lot Records in February. He was signed to the label for 15 years.
