Beckham kehrt nach Hause zurück

David Beckham hat genug von den Spekulationen über mögliche Affären: Der Flankengott will Spanien verlassen und bereits ab der nächsten Saison wieder in der englischen Premier League spielen. Das berichtet die britische Zeitung "Sunday Mirror". Dem Bericht zufolge hat der Star von Real Madrid dies seiner Frau Victoria in der spanischen Hauptstadt versprochen. Einem Freund soll Beckham gesagt haben: "Ich kehre nach Hause zurück - für meine Familie." Mit seiner Entscheidung reagiert David Beckham auf die andauernden Gerüchte über seine angeblichen Sex-Abenteuer mit Rebecca Loos und dem Callgirl Sarah Marbeck.

Ludovic Giuly was officially presented as a Barca player on Monday afternoon and declared himself ready to give 100% to this new professional challenge.


'Ludo', as he likes to be known, told the assembled press that he was ready "to take the pressure"

of the media spotlight that inevitably surrounds a club as big as Barcelona: "I like to work to the limit for my club. Before, I wasn't ready to play in a club like Barca, but now I am".

Proud to play for Barca

"I'm proud that a football club like FC Barcelona has taken an interest in me". He announced that his aim is "to give 100% on the pitch and to do better than in the video", in reference to the video images that were shown during the presentation with the French internationals best goals and passes during his time with Monaco.

Giuly also admitted that he had been flattered by the compliments showered on him by president Joan Laporta and director of football Txiki Begiristain and hoped to be able to prove himself worthy of the expectations generated by his arrival at the Club.

The Champions League

Giuly had a disappointing end to last season, finishing with a runners-up medal in the Champions League and missing out on EURO 2004 through injury and is looking forward to making amends this coming season: "I'm really proud to be able to play in the Champions League with Barca and I hope we can win it."

Ludovic Giuly is the ninth French player to wear the colours of FC Barcelona, but the fact is that his predecessors have not always enjoyed much fortune in their time with the Club. 'Ludo' is looking to change all that: "I shall be the first Frenchman to integrate myself in the Club. I promise that." He's very interested in learning both Spanish and Catalan and is looking forward to getting to know the city: "I didn't know Barcelona but I've been told many positive things that I hope to discover soon".

The contract

Ludovic Giuly has signed for three years with a buyout clause of 60 million euros. The French international completed the formalities in the Club offices shortly before the official presentation. The ceremony was marked by the evident commitment of the player to his new club. And just to make him feel right at home, he was able to converse in French with president Joan Laporta

Henrik Larsson is now a fully-fledged Barca player. He's signed his contract, he's been presented before the sports media and he's posed for photographs in the Barca colours.


Larsson is on cloud nine. As he himself admitted, he spent much of Tuesday on the phone to friends to explain the ins and outs of his move to Barca. In his opinion, he's leaving "a great club", Celtic, to play in a great institution, FC Barcelona: "more than a club, it's a way of life".

Pressure no problem

Larsson has a lot of international experience. Apart from playing in the Dutch and Scottish leagues, the Swede has also played many times in European club competitions and with Sweden in international matches. So it comes as no surprise that Larsson is not afraid of the pressure of playing in such a high profile club: "I like the pressure of playing in a big club like Barca. I know what it means because I've already been through this in Scotland. I can only tell you that I haven't come here to Spain on holiday. I intend to give 100%. I always fight right to the end."

Friendship with 'Gio' will help Larsson adapt

Henrik Larsson and Barca defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst played together for Feyenoord in the Dutch league and later for Celtic and Rangers respectively in the Scottish league. Larsson admitted to reporters "My friendship with 'Gio' will make it easier for me to adapt".

Henrik Larsson is also very excited by the prospect of playing alongside Ronaldinho, describing the Brazilian as "a world class player".

Txiki: "He lives for goals"

FC Barcelona director of football, Txiki Begiristain, said that Larsson was too good an opportunity to miss, defining him as a player who "lives for goals". He also emphasized his ability to find space near the opposing goal and his constant movement.



The contract

Shortly before the official presentation, Henrik Larsson, accompanied by his family, signed a contract for two years with a buyout clause of 20 million euros. The ceremony took place in a friendly atmosphere and the player was clearly delighted to be joining the Club. He was able to chat in English to president Joan Laporta.

Deco to have medical on Tuesday

Deco will undergo the customary medical examination on Tuesday before signing a four-year deal with FC Barcelona.


Anderson Luis de Souza arrives in Barcelona on Monday evening on route from Portugal where he has been taking part in EURO 2004. On Tuesday morning, he will have a series of tests at the Asepeyo Clinic in Sant Cugat near Barcelona and the FC Barcelona Sanitas Centre for Sports Medicine in the Nou Camp. He will then sign a contract for the next four seasons.

Deco will be the fourth new addition to the squad alongside Juliano Belletti, Ludovic Giuly and Henrik Larsson.

Didier Drogba wechselt vom französischen Uefa-Pokal-Finalisten Olympique Marseille zum englischen Fußball-Vizemeister FC Chelsea London.

Den Transfer des Stürmers bestätigte der englische Klub des russischen Milliardärs Roman Abramowitsch. Drogba soll 36 Millionen Euro Ablöse gekostet haben.

Drogba stand in Marseille noch bis 2008 unter Vertrag. In der vergangenen Spielzeit erzielte der Angreifer von der Elfenbeinküste 19 Meisterschaftstore sowie 11 Treffer in Uefa-Cup und Champions League.

Officials from Lyon and Barcelona are set to meet next week in a bid to thrash out the future of World Cup winning defender Edmilson.
So far the French champions have rebuffed all of Barca's approaches for the Samba Star, however the Catalan giants are keen to land the stopper.

Edmilson, who has three Championnat titles and a league cup crown with l'OM, is top of Barca's shopping list at the side look to bolster their back line.

The Camp Nou outfit are hoping an offer around €10 million will be enough to land the South American, although Lyon are loathe to lose any more stars.

The French champions have already seen Patrick Muller leave for Majorca and coach Paul Le Guen ideally wants to retain Edmilson's services.

Should the World Cup winner depart, it is believed Corinthians' Anderson and Benfica's Luisao could be target for the France giants.

Barcelona have agreed a fee with Lyon for Edmilson, with the World Cup winning defender set to bolster the Catalunyan club's ranks for the coming campaign.
An impressive second half of the season has left many Barca fans dreaming of glory - and the arrival of Edmilson will do nothing to change that.

The influential stopper has been a wonderful performer in France, but will seal a €12 million move - which could rise even further if he plays enough games.

Edmilson joins fellow new faces Deco and Ludovic Giuly at the club - replacing departing loan star Edgar Davids and Philip Cocu.

Edmilson has already stated his joy at Barcelona's interest in his services - and will be looking to impress in La Liga this season.
