The Relatives Aim For Guerilla Black
Posted Friday, August 20, 2004 by Styles
Anybody that has listened to the Mack 10 diss by The Relatives knows that they are no slouches when it comes to dissing!
Word has it that newcomer Guerilla Black has now caught the attention and ire of this Inglewood rap group.
I caught up with a representative of Ball'R Records and this is what he had to say about the situation:
Styles: Word has it that the Relatives are going Guerilla hunting?
Ball'R: On the West Coast we are trying to bring it back, and we don’t feel that someone who sounds like they are "the greatest rapper from New York" can do it for the West.
Styles: Is there anything else? Is there more than just the Biggie style?
Ball'R: It’s everything! It’s the whole misrepresentation all around. Its not an official representation of the West Coast sound or our lifestyle. It is what it is and we are going to touch on it and see where it goes.
This is a guy that is now out here in Los Angeles rapping like Biggie, but let me go back a year ago maybe a year and a half ago when he was down South. He had a video that was on out on BET Uncut where he was rapping just like Mystikal! I don’t know if he’s rap ventriloquist or what kind of game he is trying to play but we don’t need that on the West. Take that out to Midwest or wherever but we have a serious movement on the West and that’s the wrong representation.
We speak on everything and we will have something special for y’all, and y’all let us know how you feel. We will have something very soon.
[Styles note: I've heard the track recorded by Big Wy and it will be featured on the next "Pro Club Mixtape" by Larceny. Get ready because its a heater!! Even as someone that has enjoyed Guerilla Black's music, I can admit that. You just have to be a fan and let the artists handle their biz. Things can a get a little sticky on the West sometimes.]
