C-Rayz Walz

C-Rayz Walz

How you doin’ C-Rayz?

I’m maintaining livin’ right
Paying attention to the motions
Like fire in the bottom of the ocean

Ok, good to hear that. What’s going on in New York?

Just homicide, low projects and fucked up housings
But my mind is still browsing

Could you share some thoughts on your current album “The Year Of The Beast”?

My new album, “Year Of The Beast” is a classic piece
But there ain’t enough copies in the streets
As soon as I came on TV, sold 3 and a half million
That’s why right now I’m ’bout bout to turn into a villain

What’s the message of the beast in a nutshell?

In a nutshell, the “Year Of The Beast” is nothing but hell
It’s concentrated thought, the reason that I excel
It’s dope every track is simultaneously deep
The beast represents the animal inside of me
The animal represents the creativity spark
In the light of it it’s the beast coming to dark
Also the year when technology is so advanced
And the country got the whole people terrorized in advance
Buildings blowin’ up, bombs and destruction
So the beast will tell me for itself
Before plagues or whatever’s coming

Do you think your sound has changed when you got involved with Def Jux?

Hell fuckin no, my style never changed
I’m a emcee that slows down so I don’t loose your brain
Sometimes I speak too slow but I’m really thinking too fast
For some calculator, but that don’t make me mad
They ain’t understand Jesus until he died
So until I rhyme put a CD in my shrine
For my calls from the beat tapes and watch my spirit elevate
Death just has captured to me, I ain’t change the pace

Does Def Jux mean more money more problems or more money more possibilities?

It’s no money and more problems
It’s more mentalities for me to solve ‘em
It’s a lesson that I learned and got stronger
Which is why -hmmm- I ain’t go and leave and say the rest…

What’s coming up next, what are you working at right now?

Right now I’m 8 tracks into my new album
That’ll be something for the streets to increase the value
I don’t know if I put it out for myself as a man
And travel the land and sell it hand to hand
I wake up in Belgium, have dinner in Japan
Next day I’d be in Australia with my down under fans
Like Haiku and the Shapeshifters
I’m a big brother spitting knowledge for my great sisters
My music transfers color lines I’m color blind
To understand the music you will need another mind
That means listen to it with two people
It’s C-Rayz the beast is fully awaken and I’m full of evil
At the same time I am full of good I’m full of peace from the birth
To rapping kids from the hoods
I’m making movies and books
I’m directing videos I’m a mentality the crook
My creativity can not be disturbed
And I still got my spirit and I’m not bitter, word

What’s going on with the other members of Stronghold?

Stronghold – bunch of lazy motherfuckers right now
Maybe one day we could really put it down for the world
People always ask me it’s no denying
And I always be on some bullshit, lying
Like ‘yo, the album is coming in a minute or more’
But that’s a motherfuckin lie we ain’t seen the studio door
Motherfuckers is running round
Acting like they quitters and they putting it down like grown man
And I’m the only motherfucker that got a child except for Breez
So I don’t know why brothers cannot build a beat
Yo we need eight bars from ten different members
I be lying like ‘yeah that shit gonna drop in December’
That’s a lie, that shit probably coming in 2007
That will be a cold day in hell and I’ll be heavenly blessing the melody
Selectively flowin a speciality
Stronghold – the album will be called ‘The Legend’

What about your appearance at ‘MTV Made’, how did you catch their attention?

That was a straight blessing, I put god’s hand in that
She said ‘Waleed I’ma bless you, let me touch your head’
She touched my finger and I turned into a bear
Last thing I knew: it was a wolf with ears
I’m like ‘WOW’, she said ‘Go downtown and do an MTV interview right now!’
I said ‘for what?’ – she said ‘Walz, don’t pay it no mind
I’ma bless you, give you a chance to teach someone how to rhyme
His father made Funky Town, he’s a funky clown
A little white boy, got no soul, go help him get down!’
I said ‘hmmm God, I understand the task’
Kissed God on the cheek, she smacked me on the ass
And said ‘Yo Walz, you gotta go and score for the team
I went that out straight like ‘God, what the fuck you mean?’
She said ‘there’s sixteeen other emcees are playing for the spot
But unlike you, none of them is that hot’ – as a Sun Cycle
I said word and went up there – I said ‘thank you God for giving me this chance!’

Were you astonished that they took a cat straight from the underground?

No, I’m not astonished by nothing that happens to me
My mind’s a weapon so everything that happens to Walz is a blessing
Even going to Def Jux with Subverse dying
After the buildings exploded when the planes were colliding
The only thing I’m glad is that I ain’t in the streets with iron
That I’m on stage holding the mic and rhyming
I could be in jail for killing somebody for diamonds
And that’d be bad ’cause you would see cop sirens
So I ain’t surprised at nothing
– except when I took my heart and motherfuckers still be frontin’!

What have you been doing before you released “The Prelude”?

Before I released “The Prelude” I was runnin’ in the streets
People ice-grillin’ me ’cause I had gold teeth
All radius of a chain of bible message judge mental
And my mind was just to advanced to love pencils
I’ve been going hand to hand, state to state
Internet to internet, I’m like face to face
Base to base, case to case, I’m Norman Bates
My next album I won’t need no fucking pens to create
I’ll be going to the booth and exploit my truth
Before that I was just being the human living proof
Rhyming in High School spitting all in train and the park
Even rhyming at their house parties alone in the dark
When the party was over and the DJ asleep
All bumps givin’ me conversation on the street
That’s when I realized I’m a really crazy Walz
Have grown to dough with these rhymes, they got baby balls
They called me a Ol’ Rakim or Baby Nas and Skinny Fifty
I’m spitting like Kane in his prime
You got a brother holding
And this is way far rhythm
So before “The Prelude” I was destined to give ‘em
The exorcist, but now Plain Pat is after gate
The one to give me the old beats from the old days
I got 12 songs with him that I wanna release
As an exclusive export for European streets
For the people to pump in the Denmark jeeps…

C-Rayz Walz

What’s first when you go to the studio – the beat or the rhyme?

It’s usually the rhyme ’cause cheers really can’t peep
With the way I just do and start I put things to the beat
So I have to reverse it and take my time
First I take their beat then I give ‘em my rhyme
Cause if I gave ‘em my rhyme and try to give ‘em my beat
They can never ever ever catch up to me!
That’s why they always say ‘Yo, the beats ain’t hot enough’
No, it’s just that my flow is too sick – the beat ain’t hot enough!

Let’s move on to a serious topic. You experienced a lot of shit, your father got killed, you brother got killed – how did you work up the losses?

My brother got killed three weeks ago
I went to rework on my birthday
I’m still shakin’!
I’m lookin’ like the everlasting emcee in the middle of a earthquake
My label is fuckin’ up on the kid
I feel like I’m in jail, a life time bid
Listen to “The Limelight” and get your mind right!
Because they brainless, I escape death
Bother the head of me melodies
I’ma challenge the seventies
Selected seven-dibble-de shows that nothing is coincident!
You understand the flow with the author – I’m mad right now
And my label hand me bullshit promoters
Even my manager about to go in a coma
I done switched my whole team up cause I’m steemed up!

Are you interested in politics?

Fuck politics, it’s some poli-tricks
They all got off it, go off it, go-able gossip pit
Guzzelin’ the devil’s dick
The truth is the truth, the proof on the rise
If you’re deceitful I know your religion is lies
If you peaceful you know a hungry man gotta eat
If you’re wasteful you wouldn’t have 80.000$ jeeps
And chains that come from South Africa diamonds
You wouldn’t give a community by what you save for rhymin’
You wouldn’t be a joke, you wouldn’t be a pussy
You wouldn’t be broke and high and crash your highmen!

You once wrote a song entitled “Fuck Tha Mayor” in which you attacked Major Guliani – how have things turned out after Guliani’s retreat? What’s the situation on the street right now?

Eh yo, crack went down but just got a white t-shirt on every block around
They look the same and they don’t know the game
They don’t know crack comes from US agents and boats and planes
I tried to tell these motherfuckers it’s peruvian coke
But they say ‘Walz this shit is just groovy and I’m broke’
But it’s a joke, they didn’t listen!
“Fuck The Mayor” was sayin stay out of jail cause they make money off you niggas in prison’
But the style was deep ‘hey C-Rayz Walz why don’t you rhyme like Immortal Technique’
‘Cause if I did, cops would murder me in the streets
I give solutions not just fucking angry to the beat
Motherfuckers! I punch them all in they face
‘Cause it is politics if you get a meal and don’t say grace
That mean you ungreatful, that mean you hate you
You look in the mirror and can’t take you
They motherfuckers is grapefruits – from the tree of life
Politics, little kids can’t read or write
And their parents is dumb going’ to work like zombies
And children learn how to lie from their mommies
And niggas learn how they kill from their dad
They talkin’ about it’s all good when it’s all bad
I should be all sad and all mad!
But I’m all up I throw slugs through vocabs!

We’re already at the end of this crazy interview – do you have any shoutouts?

I give a shoutout to my girls
I’m not being greedy I’m just be loving the world!
I don’t need your pussy baby I love your mind.
You’re giving me light helping a god to shine

(…)

And my final thought just before I leave you in time
listen to the first thought the voice is in your mind!
